VARANASI: The charm of world fame Banarasi saree and the mouthwatering Banarasi chaat made Nita Ambani, chairperson of the Reliance Foundation and wife of the leading industrialist Mukesh Ambani, to move from one place to another during his visit to Varanasi on Monday evening.
Though she visited the city to offer prayers at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and give invite of her son Anant’s wedding to the deity, she also relished the Banarasi chaat at a street shop and went to weavers’ place to purchase sarees for the wedding ceremony.
She also donated Rs. 1.5 crore and Rs 1 crore to Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and Maa Annapurna Temple respectively. She took part in the Ganga Aarti at the Dashshwamedh Ghat in the evening.

After worshipping Baba Vishwanath at the temple, Nita Ambani attended Ganga Aarti and spent some time on the bank of the holy river. She tried local delicacies at a chaat outlet in Dashashwamedh area. Later, she reached the weaver Vijay Maurya's house at Sahityanaka in Ramnagar area at night to see the saree being prepared on the handloom and enquired about the material used in the saree. She saw the fine workmanship on the saree. Earlier, she called various businessmen and artisans of Banaras at hotel and saw sarees brought by them for display. She booked orders for some sarees from different weavers.
“Nita Ambani selected our ‘Lakkha Buti’ saree, which is prepared by traditional 'kadhua technique’, incorporating one lakh butis,” said a saree manufacturer Angika Kushwaha, a PhD in textile, of Ramnagar. Her father Amresh Kushwaha, chairman of UP Industrial Cooperative Association, said that Nita Ambani ordered over 100 sarees of different patterns to several weavers for the wedding ceremony.
