Veer Abdul Hamid’s sacrifices inspire new generations: RSS
Varanasi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday said, “This is the path of development of a human being. Some people stay in society and serve it selflessly, while many like Veer Abdul Hamid portray the image of human development in a different way. They opt to serve the nation by saving its borders and giving supreme sacrifice.
The society and nation bow before their selfless works and they remain in the people’s memory forever.”
The RSS chief said that in the battlefield there are only two options. “One can escape to save himself or sacrifice one’s life for the motherland. Veer Abdul Hamid also had a family. He was a good father. He had cordial relations with people of his village. But, he chose to protect the motherland and countrymen. And, what he did in the battlefield is an epitome of bravery and patience. Instead of thinking about himself or his family he fought for the country and left an example for coming generations by giving the supreme sacrifice,” Bhagwat said. Speaking about pluralistic culture, he said that India was attacked by China and Pakistan and such threats still exist. But whenever the country passed through wartime all countrymen sidelined their differences and stood together to save the motherland, he said. Recalling Tamil Nadu’s first chief minister CN Annadurai, the RSS chief said that once he used to term Tamil region a separate territory. “But when China attacked the country, he said that the attack on Himalaya was an attack on Tamil Nadu.”
Bhagwat said that recalling great martyrs like Veer Abdul Hamid is a must as their sacrifices inspire new generations. There is a need to become inspired by them and follow the path shown by them to save the nation, he added. Earlier, Bhagwat released `Mere Papa Param Vir’, a book based on the life of Veer Abdul Hamid, which has been authored by Dr Ramchandran Shrinivasan with the help of martyr’s son Jainul Hassan. Apart from Hassan, his family members and event convener Santosh Kumar Singh Yadav, many persons attended the function. Abdul Hamid, 1965 Indo-Pak war hero, is known for destroying Pakistan's Patton tanks with his RCL gun and compelling enemies to flee Khemkaran. He was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously.
The RSS chief, later, visited the home of an RSS functionary. He also visited Hathiyaram Mutt in the afternoon to take part in religious activities and left for Devraha Baba Ashram in Mirzapur.
