Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh police had formed special teams to nab all the accused in connection with the attack on NTR Bhavan (TDP central office) at Mangalagiri in Guntur district in October 2021. Fearing arrest, some YSRCP leaders allegedly went into hiding.
Y Srinivas, inspector of Mangalagiri Rural police station, said that so far, they have established the role of 63 persons (YSRCP leaders and activists) in the vandalisation of the NTR Bhavan on October 19, 2021.
A few days ago, five YSRCP activists from Guntur identified as Atchala Venkata Reddy, Bathula Devanand, Giri Rambabu, Sk Khaja Mohiddin and Sk Mastan Vali were arrested and remanded by the Guntur court for 14 days.
“We have nabbed two more persons P Gopi Reddy and K Abhi Naidu, both are natives of Vijayawada. All the arrested persons are reportedly close associates of YSRCP MLC Lella Appi Reddy,” inspector Srinivas said.
Moreover, police said that based on the complaint from TDP, they have registered a case under various Sections related to attack on property, vandalisation, murder attempt, conspiracy to kill the targeted people, hurting them and creating panic among the people.
Talking about the role of YSRCP leaders including MLC Lella Appi Reddy, former MLA Alla Ramakrishna Reddy and Devineni Avinash in the case, the inspector said that they were involved in the case either directly or indirectly. The cop added that they will nab all the accused in connection with the case. Fearing arrest, Lella Appi Reddy and Avinash filed anticipatory bail petition before the AP high court and reportedly went into hiding.
Sources said that names of some media personnel have also come up during the investigation in this case. Police said the probe is underway based on evidence submitted by the TDP office staff. The cops are in possession of some video evidence including CCTV footage, which helped them identify the accused in the case.
It may be recalled that initially, police did not take swift actions when the TDP office was attacked as it was during the tenure of YSRCP govt. After more than two years of the attack, police has now launched massive search to identify and nab all the accused involved in the case.
