YSR statue set on fire by miscreants
Vijayawada: Unidentified miscreants set ablaze a statue of the late former chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy at Addepalle village under Bhattiprolu mandal of Vemuru assembly constituency in Bapatla district on Saturday.
The statue melted despite efforts to douse the flames.
Locals and police said that a few miscreants torched the statue by using petrol.
The miscreants also vandalised a TDP flag-post in the locality.
The leaders and activists of YSRCP protested the burning and damage of YSR statues in a few parts of the state. They demanded the police to nab the culprits and punish to deter such incidents.
Bapatla district police said that they have registered a case and formed a special team to identify and nab the culprits.
The officials have also deployed police personnel at a few places to prevent possible untoward incidents in the village.
A few weeks ago, APCC president YS Sharmila, daughter of Rajasekhara Reddy, expressed concern over vandalism of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s statues in some parts of the state after the NDA alliance’s landslide win in the state.
Y S Rajasekhara Reddy (popular as YSR) had served as chief minister of then undivided Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009.
