DDMA withdraws order to deploy teachers on Covid duty at Delhi airport
NEW DELHI: The Distict (West) Disaster Management Authority on Tuesday withdrew its order of deploying school teachers on Covid duty at Delhi's IGI airport from December 31 to January 15.
According to the authority, if necessary, civil defence staff will be deployed at the airport instead.
The DDMA's decision to withdraw the order to use school teachers for Covid duty at the airport follows criticism from educators and parents, who argued that it was inappropriate to use teachers as frontline workers during the pandemic.

The authority on Monday passed an order that the teachers of Delhi government schools will be deployed at Delhi airport from December 31 to January 15 to ensure that Covid appropriate behaviour is followed by passengers arriving from abroad.
The order contained a list of around 50 teachers of Delhi government schools who are to report to the airport in three shifts -- 6am to 2pm; 2pm to 10pm and 10pm to 6am.
It had also stated that the schools will remain closed in Delhi during this period due to winter vacations.
