A separate petition was filed by NEET candidate Jaripiti Kartheek, challenging the method used by the NTA to award grace marks as compensation for the alleged loss of time during the exam. Kartheek argued that the "normalisation formula" should only extend to the number of questions left unanswered in proportion to the lost time, as each question carries equal weight and requires equal time. Apart from paper leak, there have been allegations of exam centre manipulations too. According to a petition, exam centres have also been manipulated during NEET-UG 2024 exam. The petition noted that students from states like Odisha, Karnataka and Jharkhand chose a particular centre at Godhra, Gujarat.

Following the investigation into the alleged paper leak and unfair examination practices, the SC has stated that affected candidates, totaling 1563, will have the opportunity for a re-examination. These candidates will receive their actual scores without compensatory marks. Additionally, those who opt not to participate in the re-examination will have their results declared based on their actual marks.

Not every candidate can re-appear. Only those candidates who have appeared at centers where time was reduced for some reason.

In a separate but related development, Hiten Singh Kashyap and Palak Mittal, two NEET-UG 2024 candidates, have petitioned the Supreme Court, challenging the fairness of the examination process. They claim that widespread question paper leaks and misappropriation occurred before and during the exam.

“Counselling will go on and we will not stop it. If the exam goes then everything goes in totality so nothing to fear,” the Supreme Court has said.

According to a TNN report, parent representative Ruiee Kapoor said that the explanation provided by the NTA is not satisfactory as a score of 718 or 719 is technically improbable. "Also 67 students scoring full marks is unprecedented in NEET-UG and highly unusual. There is also bunching of students with higher marks, which has led to a major discrepancy in the marks and their corresponding marks. At the same scores, the corresponding ranks have gone up by three to four times. While the overall cut-off has also risen from 137 to 164, students even with 720 marks will find it difficult to get a seat in AIIMS Delhi-a sought-after institute," said Kapoor, adding that MBBS admissions closed at rank 57 in the open merit last year in the institute.

The NTA, in an official statement, said that they received few representations and court cases from NEET candidates raising concerns of loss of time during the exam held on May 5. "Such cases/representations were considered by NTA and the normalisation formula, which has been devised and adopted by the apex court in a judgement from 2018, to address the loss of time faced by candidates. The loss of time was ascertained and such candidates were compensated with grace marks. So their marks can be 718 or 719 too," mentioned the statement.

Students scoring 718 and 719 in NEET UG 2024 have been circulated on social media widely. Students and candidates claim that it is impossible to obtain this score in the paper, when each NEET question carries four marks and one mark each is given for negative marking.

Following the announcement of the NEET UG results, students and their parents have voiced concerns about an unusual occurrence where 67 students achieved a perfect score of 720 out of 720. Additionally, there were other irregularities noted. Among those who scored full marks, six students have consecutive seat numbers and are from Haryana, suggesting they might have taken the exam at the same center. In response, parents have written to the National Testing Agency (NTA) demanding a comprehensive investigation into these alleged discrepancies before the start of the counselling process.

The number of candidates appearing for NEET (UG) increased from 20,38,596 in 2023 to 23,33,297 in 2024. This larger pool naturally led to an increase in the number of high scorers, reflecting the expanded participation in the examination.

Based on the Committee's recommendations, 12 candidates were debarred from NEET (UG) – 2024 for three years, nine candidates for two years, and one candidate for one year. Additionally, 32 candidates were given the status of Result Later until a detailed report was received, highlighting the rigorous measures taken against unfair practices.

A Committee of three experts reviewed issues such as impersonation, cheating, and tampered OMR sheets. NTA reported a total of 63 unfair means cases in NEET (UG) – 2024, and the Committee recommended specific actions for each case.

To curb cheating during the exam, NTA installed CCTV cameras in all examination halls, conducted biometric verification, and carried out thorough frisking at entry points. The use of advanced jammers to block electronic communication devices was also implemented to ensure exam integrity.
