Belgaum Dakshin Constituency Election Results: Assembly seat details, MLAs, candidates & more

Belgaum Dakshin assembly seat (also called Belgaum South) came into existence in 2008, when the assembly map was redrawn. It is a part of Belagavi Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka.

The constituency comprises the southern parts of Belgaum city and has a population of around 3.4 lakh people. The area is predominantly urban and is known for its historical and cultural significance.
The constituency is considered a BJP stronghold. In the last assembly polls, the party’s candidate, Abhay Patil won the seat with a margin of nearly 60,000 votes. He had won the seat in 2008 as well.
The BJP suffered a setback in the 2013 state polls, when the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti candidate Sambhaji Lakshman Patil defeated BJP’s Patil by a vote margin of 6,000.
Belgaum Dakshin is known for its historical monuments, including the Belgaum Fort, which is a major tourist attraction in the area. The constituency also has a significant number of educational institutions, including the prestigious Maratha Mandal Engineering College.

The newly elected MLA will have the task of addressing the issues faced by the constituents, such as traffic congestion, inadequate water supply, and lack of employment opportunities, and work towards the overall development of the constituency.
The Election Commission has announced that single-phase polls will be held in Karnataka on May 10. The results will be declared on May 13.
There are a total of 224 seats in Karnataka. It is the seventh largest legislative assembly by strength.
In the 2018 assembly polls, the state threw up a fractured mandate with BJP emerging as the single largest party with 104 seats. The Congress won 87 seats while the JD(S) won 30.
The BJP managed to form the government only after several MLAs from the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition joined the saffron party.
The BJP faces anti-incumbency in a state where no party has won consecutive terms in over 20 years. The Congress is banking on BJP’s “incumbency burden” and is confident that the corruption charges against its opponent Basavaraj Bommai will stick.
