Bhatkal is a coastal town and an assembly constituency in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. Bhatkal lies on National Highway 66, which runs between Mumbai and Kanyakumari, and has Bhatkal railway station which is one of the major railway stations along the Konkan Railway line.

As per the Population Census 2011, there are a total 4,933 families residing in the Bhatkal city.The total population of Bhatkal is 32,000 out of which 16,417 are males and 15,583 are females. Thus, average Sex Ratio of Bhatkal is 949.

The assembly seat was won by IND's Mankala Subba Vaidya and INC's J D Naik in 2013 and 2008 assembly elections respectively.
