AGARTALA: The Left Front (LF) and the Congress ironed out their differences and launched joint campaigns against BJP across the state. They also announced “unity for a greater cause” to end the politics of “violence” and the “atrocities” of the saffron brigade.
On Friday, BJP’s high-voltage campaign was rolled out by its national president J P Nadda, Union minister Smriti Irani, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and five other top party leaders.

A day after, CPM and Congress started a daylong door-to-door campaign in the city for senior Congress leader Ashis Saha, who has been pitted against incumbent CM Manik Saha from Bardowali constituency.
Meanwhile, veteran communist leader and former Left Front minister, Tapan Chakraborty, and PCC president Birjit Sinha addressed a joint press conference at Kailashahar in Unakoti district, seeking votes against BJP. Sinha and Chakraborty had contested against each other from two constituencies of Kailashahar for three decades.
“We have come together to fulfil people’s wishes and save them from BJP’s anti-people politics of terror and violence,” Chakraborty said. He said during crises in the past, the Left had always supported the Congress in the greater interest of the country.
