Sangharam organises informal event to mark 7th anniversary

Theatre group Sangharam is all set to complete its 7th year on Monday. To celebrate the day, the group members have organised an informal event that promises to showcase some heartfelt music and intense talk. Politician-turned-theatre personality, Bratya Basu, Jadavpur University lecturer Abdul Kafi and Sumanta Mukhopadhyay are all set to talk on the implications of collective effort vis-à-vis individual effort.Termed as Ami O Amra (Byakti Theke Sangathan/ Pratisthan Ba ultota), the talk will be attended by the group members.
Anirban Bhattacharya, one of the key members of the group told us, “This is a very special day for us. We don’t make it a huge elaborate event. Our friends come over. We eat together and make merry. Every year we host a talk. We tend to initiate conversations among ourselves. This is important for all of us.”
Anirban is also gearing up with Sangharam’s new play, Pontu Laha 2.0. Based on Bertolt Brecht’s Mr Puntila and his Man Matti, Pantu Laha was taken up by Anirban a couple of years ago before he took a break from theatre. Even though it was stalled for a year, the actor is now set to stage it this year.
“I thought of directing it in 2017, but it was shelved due to my big-screen commitments. Instead, I directed a 45-minute short play, Udorniti. Now, I am back. We have started rehearsing from April and are planning to stage it in September, before Puja,” said Anirban, who is also essaying a small character (Shakil Ansari Junior) in the play.
Brecht’s original play is translated in Bengali by Nihar Bhattacharya and Asadujjaman Noor. “My team member, Pratik Dutta, and I have worked on the translation and penned the script,” Anirban said.
