Hugh Jackman recalls a nearly failed Wolverine audition: I’ll never forget ...
Hugh Jackman recently shared a heartwarming story about his early days in Hollywood, specifically his audition for the role of Wolverine in the 2000 film "X-Men." Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jackman admitted that he was convinced he had failed his audition for the iconic role.
Back then, Kevin Feige, now President of Marvel Studios, was a producer’s assistant.
Despite Jackman's belief that he wouldn't get the part, Feige extended an unexpected kindness. He invited Jackman to dinner with him and the screenwriter and even offered to drive him to the airport afterward. Jackman recalled telling Feige, “Kevin, we all know I’m not getting the part. You don’t have to do dinner.” But Feige insisted, sharing a steak dinner with Jackman before driving him to the airport. “I’ll never forget it. That was the nicest thing. I thought, I’ll never see him again,” Jackman reminisced.
Contrary to Jackman's doubts, he did land the role of Wolverine, a character he would go on to portray in nine films, with a tenth appearance coming up in "Deadpool & Wolverine," produced by Kevin Feige. The movie is set to hit theaters nationwide on July 26th.
Feige’s gesture not only provided support to Jackman during a challenging moment but also marked the beginning of a long and successful collaboration. As Jackman prepares to don Wolverine's claws once more, his reflection on that pivotal dinner with Feige serves as a poignant reminder of the power of perseverance and the impact of small, thoughtful gestures. The tale of Jackman and Feige's early interaction is a touching chapter in the broader narrative of Marvel's cinematic legacy, illustrating how behind-the-scenes moments can resonate just as profoundly as the stories told on screen.
