Mumbai couple, whose video of the Rimjhim Gire Sawan recreated in the rain, has gone viral, says, 'I hope Amitabh Bachchan reacts to our video'

Last Wednesday on a rainy afternoon, Thane-based couple Shailesh Inamdar, 51, and his wife Vandana Inamdar, 47, decided to recreate the track Rimjhim Gire Sawan. While the original featured Amitabh Bachchan and Moushumi Chatterjee from the film Manzil (1979), the couple along with their friends Anup and Ankita Ringangaokar, did a screen-by-screen recreation of the song.Currently, the video has over half a million views on social media; it went viral after industrialist Anand Mahindra tweeted about it. The couple’s endearing video has been loved by people across the globe and Shailesh and Vandana are delighted with the response.
An ecstatic Shailesh, who owns a factory of mechanical equipment, tells us, “We don’t really understand social media or what it means to go viral, but the response is amazing and feels like a dream. It is beyond our imagination. We didn’t think that the song would appeal to youngsters, but they, too, seem to have loved it.”
Shailesh’s sheer desire to dance in the rain was how the idea for this video came about. “It has been on my bucket list for two years. I’d been telling my wife that we should do this, but she would chicken out. I once told my friend Anup about this and he pushed us and even executed it along with his wife Ankita,” Shailesh shares.
They planned to shoot at Nariman Point, but the day they visited the spot, there was no rain and a bustling crowd. The quartet revisited the place the following day and got lucky. “It reminded us of Bombay in the 70s. No one was on the streets, it was quaint as if the universe had strategically planned this. We had a lot of fun getting wet in the rain,” he adds.
With the video going viral, Shailesh reveals that he has been getting calls from Germany, the USA, UK and other parts of the world. “I’ve become a hero in my locality (laughs). The Bengali community of Thane even threw a bash for us, given that the song featured two iconic Bengali personalities - Moushumi Chatterjee and Kishore Kumar). Now, I hope Amitabh Bachchan reacts to our video,” he admits.
The couple has been married for 26 years and their chemistry has been lauded by many. Ask him how his wife is reacting to the attention and he replies, “She is very shy, so she has asked me to handle everything. (laughs).”

Anup Ringangaokar, who shot the video, says, “Shailesh and I have been friends since the fifth grade. The initial plan was never to recreate the entire video, but when I shot the first scene, I realised we could do the entire song. When we went there on day one, we got nervous. However, the next day, everything just fell in place. My son edited the video in one day and we never expected this to go viral.”
