Sonam Khan wants to revive her career on OTT: I will be on people’s minds longer on OTT than the traditional cinema
Sonam Khan, best known for unforgettable performances in Tirchi Topi Wale from Tridev, is set to embark on a fresh chapter in her career after a lengthy hiatus. She is eager to collaborate with promising directors from reputable production houses and explore diverse roles, whether as a pivotal character or someone essential to the storyline's progression.
Sonam is enthusiastic about venturing into the world of OTT platforms but is also open to big-screen projects that offer substantial and meaningful roles.
Perceiving the creative freedom and storytelling potential on OTT platforms compared to traditional cinema, she says, "There is potential for freedom in storytelling on OTT platforms because, in OTT, there is no central character. There is no hero, heroine, mother, father, or sister following the same clichés where the mother is crying and the father is being strict. OTT also explores a lot of issues and scripts that are more reflective of our daily lives. OTT will give me the reality as an actor is what I feel. While I would prefer working on OTT platforms, if something exciting comes along on the big screen, it's definitely a big yes for me."
Regarding her approach to her comeback and whether she finds any types of characters or narratives particularly compelling or challenging, Sonam shares, "I don’t consider anything to be challenging because I am willing to attend workshops, I am willing to work much before I go on the sets, and I am ready for all the hard work before I face the camera."
On the topic of her envisioned role in the future of the OTT industry and how she plans to navigate its evolving landscape, she states, "OTT is going to be a part of the industry in a much bigger way than we have ever imagined. Once I start my GPS on of acting that’s how I will try to navigate the landscape of the OTT."
Discussing how OTT projects will allow her to connect with her audience differently than traditional cinema, Sonam says, "OTT is something which you watch in your leisure time at home in a different state of mind, you are more comfortable as you can pause it, you can eat your food while watching, can also have a chat. Instead of a traditional cinema where you go into the theatre where you have a lot of restrictions, at home, there are no such restrictions. I will be on people’s minds longer on OTT than the traditional cinema. While I prefer the flexibility of OTT, I am also open to big-screen projects that offer substantial roles and meaningful stories. If something exciting comes along, I am ready to take it on."
