Makers of ‘Virus’ drop a video that depicts Unnikrishnan's harrowing experience with the Nipah virus

Kerala has recently reported a few cases of Nipah virus infection and two associated deaths. The Nipah virus infection has resurfaced in Kozhikode district for the third time in the past five year, and the recent outbreak has left the state in an alarming condition. Though no new cases were reported in the past six days, the public and the authorities are being extremely cautious.
Aashiq Abu’s film ‘Virus’ released in 2019 is based on the 2018 outbreak of the Nipah virus. The medical thriller portrayed the horrors of the infected individuals, and also about how it affected the mental, social, and political aspects. The makers of ‘Virus’ have now dropped a video titled ‘Unnikrishnan's Nipah Journey,’ which portrays the horrors of the mental and physical condition, a Nipah infected individual goes through. The heart-wrenching video gives an insight into the infected individual’s condition. Soubin Shahir plays the role of Unnikrishnan in the film, and his acting chops have been crucial in portraying the emotions of a Nipah-infected individual. From the physical discomfort to the hallucinations the patient feels is portrayed at its best by Soubin Shahir.

Directed by Aashiq Abu, ‘Virus’ featured some of the biggest stars in Malayalam including Kunchacko Boban, Indrajith Sukumaran, Asif Ali, Tovino Thomas, Parvathy Thiruvothu, Rahman, Indrans, Jinu Joseph, Sreenath Bhasi, Dileesh Pothan, Rima Kallingal, Madonna Sebastian, Ramya Nambeeshan, Joju George, Soubin Shahir and Revathi. The film was written by Muhsin Parari and Suhas-Sharfu. ‘Virus’ was inspired by true events surrounding the Nipah virus outbreak that occurred in Kerala in 2018. Aashiq Abu’s directorial masterfully combined elements of drama, suspense, and real-life heroism to tell a story that not only entertains but also educates and honours the unsung heroes who fought tirelessly against the deadly virus.
