Darshan, Pavithra in cop custody till June 20
Bengaluru: Sandalwood actor Darshan, along with his girlfriend Pavithra Gowda and 11 aides, have been remanded to police custody until June 20 in connection with murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy.
The actor and his aides, who were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly killing Renukaswamy, a fan who sent derogatory messages to Pavithra, were presented in court on Saturday.
While police sought a nine-day extension of custody, the court granted permission for five days to question 13 of the 17 accused in the case. There was high drama in court during hearing when Narayana Swamy, counsel for Pavithra, argued that police seized her phone without court permission and alleged that statements of the accused were being leaked.
Darshan's counsel Anil Babu C stated that the actor was being wrongly targeted. "What is the necessity of taking him to spot mahajars? Police have not specified any allegations on Darshan in the remand application. Why should he be in police custody for misdeeds of others? His custody should not be extended," he argued.
