PATNA: A CBI team investigating the UGC-NET leak case was attacked Saturday in Bihar's Nawada by villagers who allegedly mistook them for impostors, leading to four arrests. This is the first reported assault on investigators of recent paper leak cases in the state, officials said.
The attack occurred when the officers, including a woman constable from Nawada Town police station, reached Kasiyadih village in the Rajauli locality for the investigation.
The team's vehicles were also damaged.
"The CBI team had seized two cellphones in the probe. However, the villagers mistook the team for impostors and assaulted them. An FIR has been filed against eight named and more than 100 unidentified persons in the matter. Four people, including a woman, were arrested and sent to jail," Nawada SP Ambrish Rahul said.
The UGC-NET case was registered by the CBI on June 20, two days after the exam that was cancelled by the Centre over the leak.
