South Western Railways launches Swachatha Pakhwara initiative
NEW DELHI: South Western Railway has launched the Swachhta Pakhwara initiative at KSR Bengaluru Railway Station. This fortnight-long drive, mandated by the government of India, aims to involve citizens in cleanliness activities and make Swachh Bharat a people's movement.
The launch featured a signature campaign and a walkathon at the railway station, with the general manager himself leading the way.
The first day focused on 'Swachh Awareness,' emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and the ban on single-use plastics within railway premises.
Sanjeev Kishore, general manager of South Western Railway, inspected the station and urged passengers to use cloth bags instead of plastic ones to protect the environment. The Bharat Scout & Guides unit conducted a street play to raise awareness about cleanliness.
An eye-catching 'Plastic Asura' roamed the premises, highlighting the perils of single-use plastics and encouraging people to avoid them.
During his inspection, Sanjeev Kishore appreciated an Earth sculpture made from 18 kg of waste plastic bottles, crafted by the Environment and Housekeeping Branch of Bengaluru Division.
The event saw the presence of other railway officials, including Ajay Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer, and Yogesh Mohan, Divisional Railway Manager. Members of the South Western Railway Women’s Welfare Organization, led by Dr. Vandana Srivastava, also actively participated in the event.
Similar cleanliness drives were launched in Mysuru and Hubballi Divisions, with Swachhata Pledge administered at various SWR locations. Field units and station staff are conducting awareness campaigns to ensure the railways stay clean and green.
