Interchanging corridors in Kolkata metro make commuting easier for daily commuters
From the beginning of the commercial services on the under river stretch of Green Line 2 from March 15 till May 15, more than 8.20 lakh passengers have travelled from different stations of Green Line to different stations of Blue Line. The figure signifies that the interchanging point of these two corridors of Kolkata Metro at Esplanade has enabled the commuters coming from the suburban areas of Eastern Railway and South Eastern Railway to travel to any part of the city including the heart of the city i.e.Esplanade easily and comfortably.
As per the estimated figure, more than 4.64 lakh passengers have travelled from Howrah Metro station to different stations of Blue Line and more than 3.25 lakh passengers have done the same from Howrah Maidan Metro station. More than 46000 passengers have travelled to Dumdum and 39000 passengers have travelled to Kalighat from different stations of Green Line 2 in the said period. More than 26000 passengers have travelled up to Kavi Subhash from Howrah Maidan, Howrah and Mahakaran Metro stations. More than 13000 passengers have travelled to Dakshineswar and 36000 passengers have travelled to Rabindra Sadan from different stations of this stretch of Green Line.
In order to make this interchange smoother and more flexible, queue managers have been installed at Esplanade Metro station to ensure seamless interchange of passengers between Old Esplanade station (Blue Line) and New Esplanade station (Green Line).
