Afghanistan T20 World Cup Super 8 squad: List of players, match date, time and venue

NEW DELHI: Afghanistan's recent performances in white-ball tournaments have been nothing short of remarkable. After impressive victories against England, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the Netherlands in the previous year's ODI World Cup, they have continued to showcase their prowess in the current tournament.
The team has displayed consistency, all-round performances, and has benefited from the experience gained through their participation in the Caribbean Premier League.
As Afghanistan prepares to face India on Thursday, they will encounter a new challenge in the form of a day fixture. This will be their first such match in the World Cup, presenting a different set of obstacles for the Rashid Khan-led side. Despite their dominant victories over New Zealand, Uganda, and Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan suffered a significant 104-run defeat at the hands of co-hosts West Indies.
The Afghan team will rely on the bowling prowess of Farooqi, who has already claimed 12 wickets in the tournament, to make early inroads during the power-play overs alongside Naveen-ul-Haq. The spin trio of Rashid, Mohammed Nabi, and Noor Ahmad will be tasked with maintaining a tight grip on the proceedings during the middle overs through their disciplined bowling.
In terms of batting, the in-form opening pair of Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran will be crucial to Afghanistan's success, along with the contributions of Gulbadin Naib, Nabi, and Rashid. The team will also be hoping for players like Azmatullah Omarzai and Karim Janat to step up and make significant contributions.
T20 World Cup 2024 Afghanistan squad:
Afghanistan has announced its squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the West Indies and the USA this June. Rashid Khan will assume the role of captain for the team.
The squad sees the inclusion of new players compared to the 2022 edition. Karim Janat, Mohammad Ishaq, and Noor Ahmad are among the fresh faces.
Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led the team in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023, is not part of the lineup. Shahidi last played in a T20 International in 2022.
New talent Nangyal Kharoti is also included. Kharoti impressed during his international debut against Ireland earlier this year, taking five wickets across three matches with an economy rate of 5.90.
Another newcomer is young wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Ishaq. He has previously represented Afghanistan in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cups in 2020 and 2022.
Rashid Khan will lead the spin bowling department, supported by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Nangyal Kharoti, and the experienced Mohammad Nabi.
The fast-bowling squad includes Naveen-ul-Haq, Fareed Ahmad, and Fazalhaq Farooq. These players have been retained from prior selections.
