MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association will stage a grand function in November to celebrate the Wankhede Stadium's landmark 50th year. "To mark the special occasion, the MCA, in association with the postal department of the government of India, will release a special stamp. The association will also launch a coffee table book, which will have pictures of all the memorable cricketing moments at the Wankhede Stadium," a source said.
The Wankhede Stadium staged its first Test in the 1974-75 season against West Indies.
India lost that match by 201 runs.
Lad, Herwadkar picked for Mumbai team's off-season camp
Meanwhile, in a strong indication that they could make their comeback into the Mumbai team this season, middle-order batsman Siddhesh Lad and opener Akhil Herwadkar, who played for Goa and Chhatisgarh in the 2022-23 season, were on Thursday included amongst the 30 players for Mumbai's off-season camp.
Led by a new chief selector in Sanjay Patil, Mumbai's senior selection committee on Thursday picked 33 players (including three standbyes) for the camp, which will begin at the MCA's Sharad Pawar Indoor Cricket Academy in Bandra Kurla Complex from June 3.
