MCA to start process of electing interim president
MUMBAI: The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to start the process to elect an interim president of the body following the untimely demise of its late president Amol Kale in New York last Monday.
In a communication (TOI has a copy) to all the Apex Council members, MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik has called for an emergent meeting on Wednesday, "to fix the date of Special General Meeting to fill up the vacancy for the post of president.
To appoint an Electoral Officer and fix the remuneration."
As per the MCA constitution’s clause 14 (9), "any vacancy in the Apex Council due to death, resignation, insolvency, unsoundness of mind, nomination to the BCCI or other disqualification shall be filled up for the remaining period: a)In the case of an elected councilor, by elections at a Special General Body meeting of the MCA convened by the Secretary for that purpose within 45 days."
It effectively means that the association will have to elect a new president within 45 days of Naik’s communication.
Two of MCA’s past presidents—NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar and BCCI treasurer Ashish Shelar—will be the key decision-makers in endorsing the candidature of the interim MCA president, who will be in the post till the elections in Oct next year. Both Pawar and Shelar had attended a condolence meeting on Monday to mourn Kale’s death.
