Facebook parent Meta announces another restructuring: These two new teams set up; amid layoffs
Facebook parent Meta is restructuring its Reality Labs division, reports The Verge. Meta’s Reality Labs division will now be divided into two groups - Metaverse and Wearables. The restructuring means that some employees in the division will be laid off, the report states. However, the exact number is not known yet.

Metaverse division to focus on Oculus headsets

The Verge report states that post the restructuring, Metaverse unit of Reality Labs will focus on Oculus headsets, while the Wearables unit will work on other wearables, including the Ray-Ban smart glasses.

What Meta said to its employees in memo

The report further states that Andrew Bosworth, chief technological officer, Meta has sent out a memo to all Meta employees informing them about the restructuring.
"We have the leading AI device on the market right now, and we are doubling down on finding strong product market fit for wearable Meta AI, building a business around it, and expanding the audience.” He further wrote, “Our north star to overlay digital content seamlessly onto the physical world remains the same but the steps on that path just got a lot more exciting,” Bosworth noted in the memo.
He also mentioned that by restructuring the Reality Labs, Meta hopes to “reduce overhead and allow people across teams to come together and execute with a more unified view of who our customers are and how we can best serve them.”
“We are deeply committed to investing in Horizon as the core foundation of our social, spatial Horizon OS, and high-quality experiences for both mixed reality and mobile,” Bosworth told employees.
