Why is TMC distancing from its 'Star' Mahua Moitra? Is Adani's promised State investment a factor?

TMC has formally requested a response from Mahua Moitra regarding the 'cash for query' scam, with Derek O'Brien stating that the party will reach a decision on the matter in due course. The party's stance has been quite clear, indicating that Mahua is expected to navigate her own challenges. Mahua Moitra, in response, has expressed her readiness to face questioning from the Ethics Committee. Her standing within the party appears to have become increasingly isolated due to a combination of factors. Furthermore, both the TMC and the state government are presently grappling with a slew of alleged scandals, encompassing various areas such as school jobs, municipality positions, coal and cattle smuggling, and most recently, irregularities in ration distribution. The weight of the 'Cash for query' controversy adds an extra layer of complexity to the existing challenges. Notably, the prospective investment opportunities presented by the Adani Group in West Bengal also constitute a significant factor in the current context, as Gautam Adani pledged a substantial investment of Rs 10,000 crore in the state in April 2022. Given the circumstances, the leadership has opted to distance itself from the issue. The accusations against TMC MP Mahua Moitra involve her alleged acceptance of two crore rupees in cash, with the money believed to have originated from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Specifically, the allegations suggest that Mahua accepted money in exchange for posing questions, which were provided by Darshan Hiranandani. As a result, it is now expected that the Lok Sabha member will navigate these challenges independently.
