Vijay Varma, who played a dual role in the Mirzapur series, recently commented on portraying grey roles and talked about how he would never want to be stereotyped into a certain character type. However, he also feels fortunate to have found some great opportunities in terms of playing dark roles.
The 38 year old actor told India Today, “Not a lot of actors were doing these kinds of roles, maybe because of [affecting their] image.
I made a great fortune out of it and then went on to also explore other things in between.”
He also mentioned that he has tried to explore different types of roles, citing his characters in 'Murder Mubarak', 'Jaane Jaan', and 'Kalkoot'. He said, “I am here to serve. Give me a canvas to paint, and I will paint it."
During the same interview, Vijay shared that he signed up for 'Mirzapur' season 2 in 2019, the same week that Excel Entertainment released his film 'Gully Boy' and said that it was not brave but an easy choice. “From the perspective of an actor, anyone will jump to playing a double role. Also, it was well-oiled machinery and I had seen the fandom Mirzapur has, the actor shared."
Vijay, part of Team Guddu, praised Ali Fazal's character's evolution over the last two seasons, calling the impact 'amazing.' He added, "You would be amazed at what he's done this time."
The third part of 'Mirzapur' is set to release on July 5. The series stars an ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Vijay Varma, Ali Fazal, Rasika Duggal, and Shweta Sharma Tripathi, among others.
