NEW DELHI: The Israeli military reported that approximately "90 projectiles" were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel on Wednesday, following an Israeli strike that killed a high-ranking Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon the day before.
According to the military's statement, several projectiles were intercepted, while others landed in northern Israel, causing fires in some locations.
Since Hamas, Hezbollah's Palestinian ally, attacked southern Israel on October 7, triggering the war in Gaza, the Lebanese militant group and the Israeli army have engaged in near-daily cross-border fire. The recent exchanges of fire have ignited multiple brush fires on both sides of the border as temperatures have risen significantly in the past few days.
The most recent barrage from Lebanon occurred after an Israeli strike killed a senior Hezbollah commander, identified as Taleb Sami Abdallah, also known as Abu Taleb, born in 1969, on Tuesday.
According to a Lebanese military source, the commander was "the most important in Hezbollah to be killed up to now since the start of the war."
The source also mentioned that the Israeli strike hit the town of Jouaiyya, located 15 kilometers (nine miles) from the border, and resulted in the deaths of three other individuals.
