Routine health checkups are essential for avoiding health complications or detecting problems early on, but when these checkups are performed, certain aspects of reproductive health often take a back seat. Because of the increasing prevalence of fertility issues around the world, it is necessary to emphasis the importance of including fertility testing in routine health check-ups for both men and women.

Routine Fertility Checkups For Women
Such regular testing will help identify potential fertility issues. “Fertility testing for women includes evaluating hormonal levels, assessing ovarian reserve, and examining reproductive organs. This can help identify potential problems such as hormonal imbalances like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS),” advices Dr Rubina Pandit, Fertility Consultant, Nova IVF Fertility, Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore, who stresses on the importance of Anti Mullerian hormone (AMH) testing which can be done on any day of the menstrual cycle, helps women to assess their egg reserve. “Women with normal reserve (AMH - 2.5 to 4) can wait and plan their pregnancy after some time without taking undue stress. Whereas women with low AMH (less than 2.5) should plan pregnancy soon or at least get their eggs frozen if they want to plan later,” she adds.

Timely Intervention

By emphasising the inclusion of fertility testing, women can proactively address any potential concerns and take necessary steps towards preserving their fertility and overall well-being. “For women who have plans for future family-building, knowing their fertility status through testing empowers them to make informed decisions,” says Dr Rubina, who added that such fertility testing can offer women peace of mind, providing reassurance about their reproductive health and overall well-being. Emotional support is also a big advantage of routine fertility checkups.

“Fertility experts can help early detection of any underlying issue and healthier reproductive health,” explains the expert who says taking proactive measures to test your fertility health may also help to detect other health issues in the process and help people make informed decisions while planning their future. Awareness and access to fertility health check-ups are a necessity today, which makes such tests mandatory.
