Flood fears subside for now, Panchaganga level constant
Kolhapur: With the Panchaganga river water levels remaining constant at over 35ft from Wednesday noon and with the rain intensity dropping, citizens are relieved.
The warning level of the Panchaganga river is 39-ft and the danger level is 43ft at Rajaram barrage in the city. On Thursday, there was a light spell of rain in a few parts of the city.
Sachin Jadhav, a resident of Uttareshwar Peth, said, “Rain have receded and thus the flood situation will go down, offering a great sigh of relief.

Ganesh festival is nearing and floods in the city at this time would have created a panic situation.”
In Kolhapur district, 46 barrages continue to stay inundated under the floodwaters of Panchaganga, Bhogavati, Vedganga, Kasari, Dudhganga, Tulshi, Warna, Hiranyakeshi, Tamraparni, and Kumbhi rivers.
Meanwhile, the discharge from the Koyna dam in Satara district on Thursday at 6am was increased to 33,050 cusecs from its earlier 21,000 cusecs owing to the heavy rain in the dam catchment area.
However, as the rain intensity began dropping, six radial gates of the Koyna dam were dropped down to a height of one foot three inches with a discharge of 11,285 cusecs from the dam gates and 2,100 cusecs from two powerhouse units, making a total discharge of 13,385 cusecs into the Koyna River, a tributary of the Krishna River.

This will result in the water level of the Koyna and Krishna rivers remaining stable and will likely prevent a possible flood situation in Sangli district.
The last 24hours till 10am on Thursday recorded 86mm of rain in Koyna, 96mm of rain in Navaja and 87mm of rain in Mahabaleshwar. By Thursday evening, no heavy rains were reported in Satara district.
