Kolhapur: Higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil said on Thursday that a new government pharmacy college would be set up in Kolhapur, with the first batch commencing from June 2025.
Speaking at the "bhumi pujan" (ground-breaking) ceremony of Government Engineering College, Kolhapur, Patil said, "Since the implementation of the New Education Policy under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, NAAC has approved 2,300 colleges in Maharashtra.

Focus is now being given on skill-based education, with 70 percent mainstream knowledge and 30 percent skill-based knowledge to make students more versatile."
Patil also said that from this Navratri, 100 women from Pune would get part-time jobs in industrial sectors. "We have set a target of 10,000 part-time jobs for women who will be required to work for only four hours and can earn Rs8,000 to Rs 10,000 and contribute to the family. We are in talks with Chakan MIDC regarding this. Women empowerment can't take place till the time women don't earn parallelly along with their husbands," he said.
Rajya Sabha MP Dhananjay Mahadik said, "Because of the New Education Policy, skill-based learning has created the facility for learning various new courses along with mainstream education. Now the entire world is looking at India for fulfilling manpower requirements. For the students from polytechnic and engineering courses, the sky is the limit, and students should make the most of it."
Director of technical education Dr Vinod Mohitkar said, "With an intake of 300, our first batch at Government College of Engineering, Kolhapur was packed to capacity last year and this year, too all the seats are full. In Maharashtra, currently 40 govt polytechnic colleges are getting a facelift through Rs 270 crore funds allotted by higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil."

Manjulekshmi, director of technical education Mumbai Dr Vinod Mohitkar, director of MSBTE Dr Pramod Naik, Government Engineering College principal Dr. S. K.
