If you’re in the market for identity theft protection services — and you should be — then you may have seen Identity Guard or Allstate and wondered if either is right for you.
Identity Guard does offer a lot of features, but it’s more of a basic service compared to the extensive features offered by Allstate. Identity Guard includes credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, data removal, and a variety of other solid features that are useful for protecting you and your family’s personal data.
Allstate, on the other hand, offers such a complete security suite that it covers areas we haven’t seen with a lot of other ID theft protection services. It’s a comprehensive tool for multi-generational families, giving you and your loved ones a variety of protections and additional features, like an elder fraud center and location tracking for devices.
There is so much more each of these services offers, including ID theft insurance, so we’ve thoroughly covered both below.

Identity Guard plans
Identity Guard offers competitive pricing and has plans for individuals and families. It offers a 60-day money-back guarantee on annual plans, which means you have the opportunity to test it out for two months before you totally commit to a yearly subscription. Identity Guard offers a lot, but we’d still love to see other monitoring features, like medical ID protection, added to its dashboard.
- Value: Includes basic features like identity theft insurance, data breach notifications, dark web monitoring, transaction monitoring, safe browsing, and password manager.
- Total: Includes everything in the Value plan but adds some premium credit protection features and bank account monitoring.
- Ultra: Includes everything in the previous two plans but adds extras like social media account monitoring, dark web scanning, and expanded credit protection.
Allstate Identity Protection plans
Allstate offers 30 days free if you want to try its service before committing to a paid plan. Once you do convert to a paid plan, the monthly pricing is comparable to other identity theft protection plans. We were impressed by the list of advanced features, including an elder fraud center and ghosting identity fraud protection.
- Essentials: Includes exactly what the name suggests, the essentials of identity security: identity monitoring and financial fraud protection, privacy management, as well as one bureau credit scores and monitoring. You’ll also receive identity remediation, fraud cost reimbursement up to $1 million, and lost funds reimbursement up to $50k.
- Premier: Includes everything in Essentials plus advanced financial fraud protection, and lost funds reimbursement increases to $500k.
- Blue: Includes everything in the previous plans but also provides cybersecurity for personal devices, family security that allows you to monitor and filter websites, an increase to $1 million in stolen funds reimbursement, as well as a variety of advanced, useful features.

It’s hard to compare Identity Guard to Allstate because Allstate has so many more advanced features, including a firewall, location tracking, and a content hub that educates users about scams. Identity Guard does offer solid protection for a less expensive starting price, but Allstate’s plans aren’t really that expensive. Both protect against identity theft losses, which is the overall goal of any of these services.
Another thing Allstate offers is the ability to cover multiple family members of different ages. While Identity Guard restricts its plans to two adults and children, you can cover more than two adults with any Allstate plan. This is beneficial if you have a multi-generational household.
Overall, Identity Guard just doesn’t offer as much as Allstate does. If you’re looking for basic protection, Identity Guard is a solid choice. For those wanting to cover all of their bases, including device protection, Allstate has pretty much anything you could ask for in an ID theft protection service.
Which is safer, Identity Guard or Allstate Identity Protection?
You give a lot of data to an identity theft protection service when you sign up. If you’re offering that much, you should feel confident knowing your personal information is going to be protected. Two-factor authentication (2FA) can help protect your information from credentials theft, while a service that doesn’t share data reduces the amount of spam you receive.

Identity Guard does include multi-factor authentication (MFA) in addition to two-factor authentication (2FA), which are both increased security measures that help keep your account secure. Identity Guard collects and shares your personally identifiable information with third parties, which is not a practice we love.
It was noted in our research that Allstate collects your browsing history, which makes sense if it’s offering advanced web monitoring (still not cool, though). If you don’t have that feature in your plan, it’s a little unnecessary for the service to collect it. Allstate does offer 2FA to protect you from prying eyes, but, like Identity Guard, some of those eyes belong to the service itself.

In testing, we didn’t have an issue with the interface of either of these services. They both provided us with dashboards that were user-friendly and easy to navigate. Each service offered a variety of customer support options as well.
However, we didn’t have great experiences with either customer support option, to be honest. We always prefer a live chat, and neither of these protection services offers one. We also noted that Allstate failed to respond to our customer service requests until we called to cancel our account. That’s not a great look. Overall, customer service options were not stellar for either of these services.
