Three of the nine at-large seats on the Wappingers Central School District Board of Education were up for general election on May 19, 2015. The election shared the ballot with the school district's annual budget vote. Voters could vote for all three seats in this election on a joint ballot. The three candidates who received the most votes were elected to the board.

The seats held by incumbents Ved Shravah, Robert Rubin and Douglass Bitteker were on the ballot. Bitteker did not file to run for re-election, ensuring at least one newcomer would join the board. Shravah and Rubin faced four challengers—Deborah Torres Henning, Karen Mauhs Karath, Anne LaValle and Babu Munusamy—in their bids for re-election.

Ultimately, Rubin retained his seat while Shravah was defeated. Returning candidate LaValle and newcomer Karath won the other two seats up for election.

Anne M. LaValle and five other challengers lost to incumbents Ved Shravah and John Lumia and newcomers Peggy Kelland, Tracy V. Pelton and Seema Rizvi for the five at-large seats in the general election on May 20, 2014.

The resignations of board members Thomas Piliouras and Daniel Miller in February 2014 led to an increase in the number of seats up for election from three to five. The candidate who received the fourth-most votes in the May election, Seema Rizvi, received Piliouras' seat, which carried an unexpired two-year term. The candidate who received the fifth-most votes in the May election, Ved Shravah, received Miller's seat, which carried an unexpired one-year term.[7][8]

Campaign themes

2015

LaValle highlighted the following goals on her campaign website:

" My Goals as a WCSD Board of Education Trustee

Restore Local Control of Our Education System: 73% of WCSD funding is from local property owners; but federal and state "aid" and "funding grants" which effectively constitute huge unfunded mandates wind up dictating everything from curriculum to budgets. We MUST consider the broad, expensive, binding conditions that come with supposed state “aid” and “funding grants,” before accepting the funds and imposing the mandates on local taxpayers.

Maintain Fiscal Responsibility: The Board of Education has a fiduciary responsibility to act responsibly with taxpayer monies. As of June 30, 2014, WCSD has a negative Financial Position of approximately $121MM for an annual operating budget of approximately $214MM, while facilities and programs have deteriorated. With my extensive financial and accounting experience and skills, I will work to abate this unacceptable financial situation and manage our fiscal resources in the best interest of our students, teachers and taxpayers.

Increase Transparency & Accountability: WCSD Board of Education trustees are elected to represent and respond to the concerns of the community. But increasingly, the Board and District are making decisions of huge impact and consequence but with limited transparency and communication. I will work to increase transparency and accountability with regard to the Board of Education decision making process.

Stop Common Core & APPR: As a result of NYS’s and WCSD’s decision to accept Race to the Top funds, our schools have been shackled to the most burdensome and unproven educational and teacher rating systems in the history of public education. The negative financial and educational impacts of these binding "reforms" are staggering and dangerous. They have virtually eliminated the voices of parents and teachers in the education of our own children. I am passionate about raising community awareness regarding this covert overhaul of our education system and will push back against inappropriate federal and state overreach that usurp parental rights and harm children at the expense of local taxpayers.[11]

—Anne M. LaValle's campaign website (2015)[12]

LaValle also published the following defense of why some of her children attend private school:

" My two children who are currently in high school received full scholarships to attend a Catholic high school, so that is why they are not attending John Jay now. My youngest daughter attends Catholic elementary school, but she will likely attend John Jay for high school. My family's faith is central to our family, and it drives our decision to pursue Catholic education for our children. It's not a reflection of how I feel about the Wappingers schools.[11]
