Arati Prabhakar is President Joe Biden's director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP).

Biden announced that Prabhakar, a former director of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, was his nominee for the position on June 21, 2022. Biography

Prabhakar received her B.A. in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University. She went on to attend the California Institute of Technology, where she received a Ph.D. in applied physics and an M.S. in electrical engineering.[1]

She began her career working as a congressional fellow in the Office of Technology Assessment. From 1993 to 1997, during the Clinton administration, she led the National Institute of Standards and Technology. She then spent 15 years working in Silicon Valley as a business executive and venture capitalist, where her work included components for consumer electronics and semiconductor process technology.[1]

Prabhakar served as the director of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency during the Obama administration from 2012 to 2017. In 2019, she founded a nonprofit, Actuate, that aimed to bring "new actors to the table to develop solutions to the challenges of climate, health, trustworthy data and information technology, and opening access to opportunity for every person."[1]
