|I am Deon Tedder, a resident of North Charleston, SC, and I am running for South Carolina House of Representatives District 109. As a lifelong Democrat and a tireless advocate for my community, I have spent my career fighting for South Carolinians, and now I'm ready to bring that fight to the State House!
I am a proud graduate of SC State University's Honors College, graduating magna cum laude, and the University of South Carolina's School of Law.
While in college, I worked in the office of the late Senator Ted Kennedy, where I assisted on the Health, Education, Labor, & Pension (HELP) Committee.
I hold the honor of having been recognized by the National Black Lawyers Association as Top 40 under 40 Personal Injury attorneys. I enjoy volunteering with the Be A Mentor program, Harvest Hope Food Bank, and (specify school). And I take great pride in having served as a Guardian Ad Litem for a Court Appointed Special Advocates Program.
What makes me unique is my ability to easily empathize and relate to people. Electing me would mean an experienced lawyer that is forward-thinking. It would also signal a fresh perspective on issues like criminal justice reform, affordable housing and education.
I am honored to be endorsed by SC House Democratic Leader Representative Todd Rutherford, Charleston City Paper, and Conservation Voters of South Carolina.
- I have always had a passion to help others. As an attorney it is my job and my life's work to protect those that need protecting. There would be no greater honor than to be a part of the decision making process regarding how to protect, serve and honor the great citizens of Charleston and Dorchester counties.
- As a product of the public education system, I understand the gaps in educational outcomes-high school graduation rates, college readiness and workforce advancements based on race, class and geography. These issues are magnified in underserved communities and it is the role of the government to help bridge this divide. I believe that in order to succeed we must invest in ourselves and our children. If given the honor to represent District 109 I will work tirelessly to be that bridge to make sure that sure every child - no matter their socioeconomic status - has an opportunity to further their own learning.
- As a member of the legislative body I will also fight to reform our unbalanced criminal justice system, public education, housing inequalities and promote sustainable growth while protecting our natural resources.
I am passionate about investing in the public education system and raising teacher pay, criminal justice reform, and Medicaid expansion.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
