The terms of six Missouri Court of Appeals justices expired on December 31, 2020. The six seats were up for retention election on November 3, 2020. A full term on the court is 12 years.
Judges Robert Dowd and Daniel Scott did not file for retention in 2020. They retired at the end of the year.[1] Missouri Gov. Mike Parson (R) appointed Thomas C. Clark II to fill Dowd's seat and Jack Goodman to fill Scott's.[2][3] Click here for more information.

Ballotpedia provided comprehensive coverage of how election dates and procedures changed in 2020. While the majority of changes occurred as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some changes occurred for other reasons.
Missouri modified its absentee/mail-in voting procedures for the November 3, 2020, general election as follows:
- Absentee/mail-in voting: Any registered voter could cast an absentee ballot (subject to a notarization requirement) in the general election.

Selection

The judges of the court of appeals are selected under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan, which includes selection by the Missouri Appellate Judicial Commission based on merit, gubernatorial appointment, and retention by the voters. All judges serve 12-year terms.[4]
Qualifications
To serve on the court of appeals, a judge must be:
- licensed to practice in Missouri;
- a U.S. citizen for at least 15 years;
- a qualified state voter for at least nine years;
- a resident of the district over which the judge presides;
- at least 30 years old and at most 70 years old
