Structure

Mission

The mission statement of the New Hampshire Board of Education reads:[1]

" The Mission of the New Hampshire State Board of Education is to provide leadership, support, and oversight of the state's education system to ensure that every individual acquires the skills and knowledge to succeed in a competitive global economy and thrive as a 21st century citizen.[2]

Superintendent

The current New Hampshire Commissioner of Education is Frank Edelblut (nonpartisan). Edelblut assumed office in 2017.

State Board of Education

The State Board of Education is composed of six members. Five members are appointed from the five executive councilor districts and the remaining member is appointed from the public at-large. All members are appointed by the governor and executive council. Members are appointed to serve five-year terms and may serve up to three consecutive terms.[3] The Board is responsible for reviewing all programs and activities of the Department of Education, advising the Commissioner of Education, hearing appeals and issue decisions, and appointing members of the professional standards board and other advisory bodies as provided by law.[3]
