2016

Nystrom's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

"

Bildung

  • I am committed to a quality public education for every Minnesotan. Four generations of our family have graduated from the Brainerd Public School system, providing a strong foundation for the future. At the Capitol, I will advocate for our youngest Minnesotans to receive a solid pre-kindergarten program and K-12 education, setting them up for success.

Property Taxes

  • Property taxes continue to climb and our rural areas are hit the hardest. We must find meaningful property tax relief for area residents by fully funding Local Government Aid (LGA), County Program Aid (CPA) and direct property relief (Homestead Credit Refund).

Rural Minnesota

  • Rural Minnesotans deserve access to high-speed internet, safe roads and bridges, affordable housing and a strong, local economy. As a Baxter City Council member, I understand how our infrastructure is critical to the success of businesses and tourism in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
  • I support a sustainable, comprehensive solution to our transportation challenges. If we want to create jobs and grow our economy, we need a system that works for everyone in Minnesota.

Gesundheitswesen

  • Affordable health care has been my passion for twenty years when my little brother was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 1996. I’ve seen first hand the burden of living with a chronic, incurable disease. The high cost of health care and prescription drugs remains a large source of stress for many Minnesotans.
  • If elected, I would continue my lifelong advocacy to reduce prescription drug prices, ensure health care coverage and invest in medical research that would benefit millions of Americans.[5]
