Steve Marshall (Republican Party) is the Attorney General of Alabama. He assumed office on February 10, 2017. His current term ends on January 18, 2027.
Marshall (Republican Party) ran for re-election for Attorney General of Alabama. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Marshall was appointed to the office by Gov. Robert Bentley (R) on February 10, 2017, after Luther Strange (R) resigned to serve on an interim basis in the U.S. Senate. Marshall defeated Joseph Siegelman (D) by a margin of 17 percentage points to win election to a full term in 2018.
Before he was appointed attorney general, Marshall served as district attorney for Marshall County. His earlier legal experience includes work as a local prosecutor, in private practice, and as a legal analyst for the state house.
Biography
Marshall practiced law in the Birmingham and Montgomery offices of Maynard Cooper and Gale P.C. before establishing his own law firm, McLaughlin & Marshall, in Guntersville, Alabama, in 1995. He worked as a prosecutor for several municipal courts in Marshall County and served as a municipal attorney in Arab, Alabama. He also worked as a legal analyst during several legislative sessions for the Alabama House of Representatives.[1]
In 2001, Marshall was appointed district attorney for the 27th Judicial Circuit in Marshall County, Alabama. He was re-elected to the position in 2004, 2010, and 2016.[1]

Political career
Attorney General of Alabama (2017 - Present)
Marshall was appointed Alabama attorney general by Alabama Governor Robert Bentley (R) on February 10, 2017. He served out the remainder of former Attorney General Luther Strange's term, which expired in 2019.[2] Marshall was elected to a full, four-year term on November 6, 2018.
