🤝 EEA and DG Sante strengthen partnership to tackle climate change and protect public health 🌍
We are pleased to announce that, earlier this week, Leena Yla-Mononen, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (EEA), and Sandra Gallina, Director-General of the Directorate General for Health and Food Safety (DG Sante) (EU Health and Food Safety), have signed an amendment to the Service Level Agreement between the two institutions. This enhanced collaboration expands the scope and reach of the European Climate and Health Observatory, a critical initiative addressing the impacts of climate change on human health.
Key updates:
✅ Extending the European Climate and Health Observatory’s activities until the end of 2027
✅ Strengthening capacity building in EU Member States, ensuring that the knowledge developed is passed on to those who can take action
✅ A new role for the EEA in assessing public health risks under the Serious Cross-border Threats to Health Regulation, working alongside six other EU agencies.
These updates reinforce our joint commitment to climate change adaptation, and ensuring that Europe’s public health systems are resilient in the face of climate-related challenges.
Together, we are building a safer, healthier, and more resilient Europe for future generations. 🌱💪
