Interest rates might fall to ~3% by mid-2025. - Global Growth: Germany is contracting, Spain is thriving, and the UK is rebounding. China faces deflation risks, while the US may slow. Canada has shown recent improvement after a tough 2023. - Productivity: Canadian productivity lags behind the US due to tariffs, regulations, and tax issues. - Wages: Wage growth exceeds inflation, easing the impact of higher mortgage refinancing rates. It was a great presentation that focused on the Canadian economy, and it covered many top of mind important aspects including: inflation trends; policy interest rate changes; how Canada stacks-up in terms of global growth trends; Canada's lagging productivity and drivers; and wages. Equally thorough were the questions and answers that followed her formal presentation on these topics.
