#tbt to the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse in #hamilton, Ontario! 🪴 When plants began to outgrow the former Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse, the City of Hamilton embarked on the rehabilitation and expansion of the building and MTE was retained to provide civil and structural engineering services in support of the project. Our civil engineering team developed the detailed site grading, servicing and stormwater management design, as well as provided construction inspection and final certification. Our structural group’s scope of work on this project included a preliminary structural design, structural design development, the review of shop drawings and the general review of construction and as-built drawings. ✨ Project Spotlight ✨ Covering 325,000 square feet, the Humber College Cultural Hub (HCH) will be the new home for Humber’s award-winning Faculty of Media and Creative Arts and will also include a 318-bed student residence. The HCH will be the largest zero-carbon certified development for a university or college institution in Ontario with features such as full electrification, ground source heat pumps, energy efficiency, encapsulated mass timber construction, and photovoltaic solar panels. King Animal Hospital is a leading multidisciplinary referral and emergency facility for both small animals and equines. Spanning 60,000 square feet across four stories on over 50 acres, the hospital provides essential services to the community and their pets. 🐾 The facility aims to revolutionize animal care in the area and be a catalyst for knowledge exchange in the industry as the demand for veterinary services in Ontario continues to grow. Ottawa Street serves as an important transportation corridor, connecting commuters from Homer Watson Boulevard and Highway 7/8 to several neighbourhoods in #kitchener. This particular stretch of roadway was experiencing heavy traffic volumes, long wait times and a high accident rate. The solution involved the design and construction of two roundabouts at the Ottawa Street intersections of Homer-Watson Boulevard and Alpine Road. In addition to controlling traffic, roundabouts offer many benefits in comparison to a normal traffic lights including lower costs, no light maintenance, and an overall safer experience. This project would be the first of its kind in Ontario, as the two roundabouts were designed and constructed in close proximity to one another, a challenge MTE was proud to take on! #roundabout #mteproject #civilengineering #roaddesign #urbanplanning

#tbt to the Breithaupt Block project in #dtkitchener ! 🏙️ Our team was thrilled to partner with Perimeter Development and Martin Simmons Sweers Architects Inc. to bring this project to life. MTE proudly contributed a range of consulting services across multiple phases of the Breithaupt Block in Downtown Kitchener. The Google offices are situated amongst three distinct building locations: Breithaupt I, II, and III. Google's various office complexes in downtown Kitchener mark a significant architectural achievement in the area's recent urban redevelopment. The development of Breithaupt I, II, and III has successfully blended industrial heritage with contemporary design.
