New position at EPFL Since Monday and until the end of 2024, I will be the EPFL Vice-President for Academic Affairs (provost) a.i., i.e. in charge of education and research. In parallel, I'll continue my role as Associate Vice-President for Education, i.e. running the bachelor and master programs. It is a highly symbolic move for EPFL to pick an education researcher for this function. Thanks!

[#SEFI2024 - Day 2] The day kicked off with a round-table, chaired by Roman Bruegger, featuring representatives from the partners of the 52nd SEFI Annual Conference, including Dr Tanya Morton (MathWorks), Dr Tatiana Vakhitova (Ansys), Xavier Fouger (Dassault Systèmes), Chris Bradshaw (Bentley Systems) and Martin Koczmann (Siemens). The panel had the opportunity to share their views on the essential skills that future engineers need to acquire. The conversation first focused on the importance and benefits of cultivating diversity within teams. “The earlier you can start with the idea that a diverse team is more powerful than a non diverse one, the better,” Martin Koczmann stressed, adding that ”the diverse team always wins.” The second part of the panel discussion was dedicated to the idea of a code of professional #ethics for engineers, in particular the Archimedean Oath (drafted at EPFL in the early 1990s). Two topics that generated rich exchanges with the audience. The first part of the morning session closed on the announcement of the recipient of the SEFI Leonardo Da Vinci Medal, which was awarded to Professor John Mitchell.
