Bridging Borders: Water for a Peaceful and Sustainable Future 💧🕊️ 👆 That is the theme of this year's World Water Week and that is exactly why we are here. 🗨 "Bringing visibility to those who are left behind, especially around wash systems interventions, bringing more visibility around what works where and for whom." This is how our colleague Irene Gai sums up our goal at World Water Week.  In view of the increasing global and regional interdependence of communities and nations, it is essential to work together for a peaceful and sustainable future. 🤝 Strengthening the international water architecture is crucial. We want to play our part in this and are presenting two of our approaches at World Water Week: ⚙️ With our systemic WASH approach “Sustainable Service Initiative”, we rely on strategic partnerships and existing resources to effectively tackle systemic challenges and holistically strengthen both local and national WASH systems. 💡 Together with our partner Viva con Agua , we pursue the “Universal Language Approach”. Through the universal languages of music, art and sport, we raise awareness for WASH topics (water, sanitation, hygiene) in a playful and joyful manner - without any language barriers. Discover how sport, music and art can strengthen WASH systems and impact community empowerment, demand creation, and the strengthening of local authorities and governance! 📆 Thursday, August 29, 2024  ⌚ 14:00 to 15:30 pm CEST  📍 World Water Week Conference C2, Level 2 and Online ✍🏾 Register to join the session online for free: https://lnkd.in/eix2Zg_y #WorldWaterWeek #WWWeek #BridgingBorders #WaterCooperation #WASH #WaterForAll

What tools are being used to monitor WASH systems strengthening approaches? ⚙️💧 To build consensus, we are hosting a thinkshop session titled "Framing Qualitative Evidence in Systems-Strengthening Programming" in collaboration with Agenda for Change and IRC during World Water Week in Stockholm. 🗨️🗯️ 🎯 In this interactive session, we aim to create a compendium of tools for the qualitative monitoring of systems strengthening designed for practitioners. Participants will have the opportunity to review and evaluate various tools and methods. Our goal is to summarize these findings in a publication that offers diverse perspectives on effective monitoring practices, which will be made accessible to the entire WASH sector. By doing this, we'll empower the sector from within to enhance collective accountability, foster continuous learning, and elevate best practices. 🎤 Our speakers: Bethlehem Mengistu Betre (Agenda for Change) Irene Gai (Welthungerhilfe) Stef Smits (IRC WASH) Are you attending World Water Week in Stockholm?👆 Don't miss our thinkshop: 📅 Monday, August 26, 2024  ⌚ 9:00 to 10:30 am CEST  📍 World Water Week Conference in Stockholm, Room 26, Level 2 World Water Week is the leading conference on global water issues. A Journey of Compassion 💚 Get to know our colleague Evin and her dedication to humanitarian work! 🧕🏼 Since 2020, Evin has been actively involved in humanitarian work with various organizations, holding different positions. Her deep-seated desire to make a positive difference in the lives of the most vulnerable led her down this path. Evin is committed to striving for greater justice and equality. ⚖️ Working as a humanitarian aid worker brings a variety of challenges. For Evin, one of the most significant challenges has been navigating the cultural and social differences among the communities she serves. Despite the risks involved in this line of work, she continues because she believes in the importance of improving the lives of others. 💪🏼 When asked about a work experience that has left a lasting impression on her, Evin speaks about how she fostered unity between displaced communities and local residents. For Evin, this was one of the most joyful and inspiring moments in her humanitarian work—seeing how these individuals became a community and cooperated. 🫱🏽🫲🏾 🗨️ "I felt a deep sense of human solidarity and brotherhood, witnessing how humanity can flourish even in the darkest times. These moments of unity are among the most cherished experiences of my career," says Evin. 📢 Our colleague has a clear message for the world: We need to strengthen compassion and solidarity with the most vulnerable in our societies. Humanitarian workers are the bridge between crises and solutions, and they deserve our support and protection. Despite the risks humanitarian aid workers face, they continue to make a difference and bring about positive change. We are incredibly grateful for their tremendous efforts. 💚 Let us continue to build a more compassionate and just world for all! 🌍🫂 #ActForHumanity #HumanitarianAid #NotATarget #LeaveNoOneBehind

Humanitarian aid workers are not a target! 🙅🏽🙅🏻🙅🏿 Humanitarian aid workers are often the first responders in crises, providing essential relief and hope where it’s needed most. Yet, their courage comes with great risks. ⚠️ 2023 was the most deadliest year on record for humanitarian workers. And this trend seems set to continue, as it currently looks as if 2024 could be even worse. 📈 Civilians and humanitarian aid workers are repeatedly targeted and attacked in armed conflicts — even though this is prohibited by internationally recognized laws. ❌ On today's #WorldHumanitarianDay, we demand: Attacks on civilians, humanitarian workers and humanitarian facilities must stop. Attacks on civilians and humanitarian workers, must not become a normality. The protection of the civilian population and humanitarian aid workers in conflict zones must be guaranteed❗ #ActForHumanity #HumanitarianAid

Sudan is facing one of the biggest humanitarian crises in the world❗ For more than a year, a devastating war has been destroying the livelihoods of millions of people and the country's infrastructure. 🇸🇩 More than 2️⃣5️⃣ million people, half of Sudan's entire population, are in a critical food situation. 755,000 are at acute risk of famine, and more than 10 million people have been displaced within Sudan – more than in any other country. The people affected in Sudan are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. 🆘 On the occasion of the peace talks taking place today, we therefore demand: ☑️ Unhindered and safe humanitarian access to the affected people ☑️ Ceasefire ☑️ International pressure for a peaceful solution ☑️ More funding for humanitarian aid We are supporting the affected people in Sudan and will be working with the World Food Programme (WFP) to distribute relief supplies to 40,000 people in North Darfur in the coming days. 💚 #Sudan #Famine #HumanitarianAid #ZeroHunger

Together, we can achieve more 🤝 In 2023, we reached 1️⃣6️⃣.4️⃣ m people in 36 countries with our work. These people are now harvesting and generating more, which means they can feed themselves better, have clean drinking water, and fall ill less often. For children, this support means the opportunity for better physical and mental development – and, thus, better self-determination in their future. 🌱🍲🚀 This work would not be possible without the support of our private and institutional donors. Thank you very much! 💚 Together we will achieve #ZeroHunger! #AnnualReport2023 #HumanitarianAid #DevelopmentCooperation #NGO

Our planet has been at its limit for a long time 😥 Today is Earth Overshoot Day 2024. This means that we have used up all the natural resources that should have been available to us for the entire year. From now on, we are essentially living on credit; the Earth is at its limit. The way we are currently living, we would need not just one Earth, but 1.7 Earths. 🌎 The German Overshoot Day was even earlier, at the beginning of May! 😱 Each of us consumes resources and has an impact on the Earth Overshoot Day. Did you know that by reducing our food waste and adopting more sustainable habits, we can already make a significant difference? It's in our hands to make a change. 😉 Together, we can make a difference. Only by adjusting our lifestyle and informing others about this important day can we push back the Earth Overshoot Day. 🌱 #EarthOvershootDay #Sustainability #Welthungerhilfe
