    Skeleton Technologies marketing team visited our energy storage testing facility in Tallinn 🇪🇪 — better known as the #ThunderDome, it is led by Anthony Hill, our Test & Field Engineering Manager. This high-tech lab specializes in testing to ensure that our products meet the highest standards on the market. 🔋⚡ “Essentially, it serves as a high-tech laboratory where we put our #supercapacitors and energy storage solutions through rigorous, real-world tests to ensure their reliability, safety, and performance under extreme conditions. In the Thunderdome, we simulate the harsh environments our products might face in industries like automotive, transportation, and grid energy storage. Whether it’s extreme temperatures, high voltages, or rapid charge-discharge cycles, we push our technology to the limits to ensure it meets the toughest safety and durability standards before it reaches our customers. In short, the Thunderdome is where we make sure Skeleton's products aren’t just cutting-edge, but also tough enough to perform in the most demanding applications”, explains Anthony Hill. For the marketing team, this was a valuable opportunity to see and understand the important and critical role that testing and safety play in the development process of cutting-edge energy storage solutions. 💡 “Seeing first-hand how our products go through rigorous testing really gives insights that are hard to understand from just looking at data sheets.     Did you know that #datacenters globally consume around 2% of total power, and this number is expected to grow to 5% by 2030? ⚡ Europe's electricity demand has faced several shocks over the past 15 years— from the global financial crisis and the pandemic to the energy crisis affected by the war in Ukraine. Europe 🇪🇺 now hosts about 15% of the world’s data centers, yet it also has the oldest grid network. Modernizing this grid for the demands of #AI will require investments of more than 1 trillion euros in the near future. As AI workloads fluctuate by the millisecond, today's data centers face serious challenges managing power spikes, risking voltage sags and outages. #Supercapacitors, however, offer a robust solution by handling fast power demands with quick response times. They improve the reliability of AI data centers and serve as backup power sources. The data center industry is among the most vital sectors where energy storage systems need to ensure maximum stability and extended service life. Monitoring the health of these systems is vital for maintaining a reliable grid, but determining service life and detecting faults can be challenging, often leading to increased maintenance costs. Take #SkelGrid 2.0 as an example: its intelligent SoH monitoring predicts when modules need replacement and recommends corrective actions, optimizing performance and extending service life. 🔋 ⚡️ And here’s a key concern: Data center fires, especially involving Li-ion batteries, have caused massive financial and also safety risks. 🔥 🛑 #Supercapacitors, storing energy electrostatically instead of chemically, greatly reduce the risk of leaks, explosions, and fires.     ➕ Did you know that combining #supercapacitors with #LithiumIon batteries can extend battery life by up to 20%? 🔋 While this powerful #HybridTech is still in the testing phase, it's showing immense promises for the future of energy storage. 👏🏼 Since 2020, Skeleton Technologies has been working alongside AVL Deutschland GmbH and the Fraunhofer IEE Institute for Energy Economics and Energy System Technology as part of the #SuKoBa research project, backed by the German 🇩🇪 Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate. The SuKoBa project aims to revolutionize #HybridStorageSystems by developing cross-functional applications and tools. Battery storage systems typically age faster when required to deliver high power for short bursts repeatedly. However, by pairing them with supercapacitors that handle these load peaks, we can significantly reduce this strain. In this setup, batteries focus on continuous operation while supercapacitors manage high-intensity tasks like recuperation. One of the biggest challenges has been accurately predicting how coupling with supercapacitors impacts battery lifespan. The core of the SuKoBa project is a breakthrough degradation model, developed using the BaSiS Simulation environment by Fraunhofer IEE.
