At this point it's fairly redundant, The VB have been at the heart of Baltimores diversity efforts from their founding in 1970 to the present day. All of the news stories about the group were negative calls the news media trumpeted as the only thing they seemed capable of, namely calling out the racist policies of the BFCD. So positive stories of the Vulcan Blazers did not make the news. But cites are found aplenty of individual VB's whom are feted for their contributions, or their loss. Other than the 3 editors whom have declined the article as notable, is there any one whom sees this article as notable, possessing context, is timelined and can be streamlined by further editing? Hi there, I've just been linked to the AFD for this article, I didn't realise there had been a second one after the first AFD was decided to keep. Anyway, I've provided a credible source and request to keep the article perhaps with a better outside of Sweden rewrite of the article (Which I'm willing to do) as this is done also in Germany. In Germany it is done to keep anonymity of suspects prior to conviction as per German Law. There isn't really a race aspect to it, more just to make every pixelated person look the same regardless. The fact is even prior to the refugee crisis, images were pixelated in this was for exactly the same reason, not to protect refugee crimes as the original article claimed. Thanks in advance. I've compiled a list of sources mainly from Germany so I'll be able to rewrite and fully source the article this weekend. I will give until Friday for you to reconsider the deletion on the basis I will rewrite and fully reference the article with official sources, mainly the 12.1 Press Code section 5 which deals with keeping the identities of perpetrators completely anonymous from any profiling, including racial profiling. While I have included references which are 'mere mentions' and don't weigh in, I understand that consumer magazines do qualify under the rules. While "The National Enquirer" would not, I believe a European equivalent to "Good Housekeeping" should.

Is it really your intent to challenge the compromise on schools? I'd think that we have quite sufficient articles that really need deletion to waste time on debating what would quite literally be tens of thousands of these. Before the compromise, we sometimes had 10 or 15 of these every day,about a 20% increase in the number of afds to consider. The results weren't even deleting the worst of them--the results were essentially random in terms of importance or quality, depending on who showed up and how strongly the article was attacked & defended. I submitted the page "Xavient Information Systems" a few weeks ago and it was denied on the grounds of a lack of notability. However, I understand notability is dependent upon having significant coverage in several reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject. Based on these criteria, Xavient's page should be reconsidered regarding notability, as

  • a) we provided 10 references, showing sufficient "significant" coverage and
  • b) the coverage is from reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject.

Xavient's coverage in CableFax, Investor's Business Daily and Broadband Technology Report especially should provide substantive evidence of notability, especially compared to the following companies' pages:

CableFax and Broadband Technology Report have been used as sources on multiple other company pages (CableFax: INSP (TV network), Full Channel, Blackboard Wars; Broadband Technology Report: Integrated Broadband Services, Pixelmetrix, Comcast Business) which supports the claim that Xavient's presence in these outlets constitutes a higher degree of notability than has been recognized.

Please reconsider Xavient's notability.

Hi SwisterTwister. I'm still working on the Xavient draft page but I need more help and was hoping you could direct me to a Wikipedia user who specializes in editing IT/technology pages and who would be able to provide a steadier stream of input as I continue to work on Xavient's page. I tried to use the Teahouse with little success and despite having a "Request for Adoption" sticker on my user page for several months, no one has adopted me. I'm going to respond to this, as I tend to specialize in school notability questions. We have a standard practice that any degree-granting high school or secondary school can have an article. It is not clear from the article whether this is indeed a degree-granting school, or a school that offers individual remote courses. I've examined the school's website in detail, and I finally did find the [1] and it does. The article needs to clarify this. It also needs some numbers: I see some approximate numbers on the web site for the number of people taking courses, but not for the number of people completing their full high school program atthe school. Deletion of userspace pages

Hello, David. I've been deleting userspace pages which you have tagged for speedy deletion. I see that you have been systematically working through the alphabet, and are now up to H. You must have put quite a lot of work into checking huge numbers of pages, and you are to be congratulated on dealing with a lot of junk which really should have been deleted years ago, but nobody put in the work of checking. In my opinion, some of your most useful work is tagging unambiguously promotional pages. However, I am less sure about the value of tagging a page "because it is a userspace draft containing only the default Article Wizard text, and the user who created the page has been inactive for at least one year". The huge number of pages you have tagged take up a considerable amount of administrator time, which could be spent on other things, and while in my opinion the time is worth spending when it is removing such things as spam, I am less convinced that taking time away from other work in order to delete essentially empty pages is a good idea. You may therefore like to consider leaving those pages. Obviously, it's up to you, but that's a suggestion. I just want to point out that Netop Remote Control has been on the market for around 30 years and is one of the most widespread remote access tools in the world. Netop has millions of users and and cannot be regarded as not notable. Netop Remote Control is far more notable than most of the tools you can find on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_remote_desktop_software!

Many IT magazines and IT related web pages have produced reviews and comparisons where Netop Remote Control has been regarded as one of the best remote access tools. So I should think that it is fair to say that Netop Remote Control can be listed among all the other tools for remote access.

Money Pump

It seems that you are quite busy, so let me be brief.

I occasionally consult Wikipedia, and fix mistakes when I find them in my own area of expertise. Recently, I looked up and fixed Dutch Book by adding a paragraph of clear explanation to central idea. I was surprised to find that Money Pump redirects to the Dutch book, and is not mentioned in the Dutch Book. The Dutch Book is an argument about preferences over lotteries which lead to subjective probabilties. The Money Pump is used within this argument to show that preferences must be transitive. These are two separate, but related arguments.

The redirect is wrong, since it confuses two similar arguments. My explanations provide a good introduction to the topic. If someone can do better, they should improve upon it. Reverting to the REDIRECT of Money Pump is goes back to a mistake and a confusion, abandoning an important clarification. Asaduzaman (talk) 06:53, 15 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Question about a draft

Thanks for reviewing my submission !

I’ve read your comments and the guidelines that Wikipedia provides but I’m still not sure what exactly needs to be improved.

You pointed out that Wikipedia requires significant coverage and reliable sources that are independent of the subject. I tried to include various reliable articles about the Varkert project, both from conservative and liberal newspapers and magazines. There are more articles about the subject but most of them are unfortunately only in Hungarian and I haven’t managed to find more articles in English, as this was a local/national project. Also, I’m not sure if this was a problem or not, but because the project and the case started 14 years ago, these articles are not available on the internet.

I would really appreciate if you could give me specific examples about what was wrong with my article and what kind of reliable sources you were (or I should be) looking for.

Keeping the article Bars4Justice in draft mode seems odd due to the subject matter and historic significance of the film. I reviewed the sources and found that the film is in The Los Angeles Sentinel which is the only and most prominent long running African American Los Angeles newspaper. Reliable doesn't mean popular or mainstream or does it?

This was written in the Arizona Republic "ASU Black History Month ASU has a many events planned out during the month of February and many are open to the public. Options include a storytellers series, lectures, a session on traditional African dances, a mural project and a discussion on race and social injustice, which will follow a viewing of the documentary Bars4Justice. The short film was shot on location in Ferguson, Missouri, during the one-year anniversary of the shooting of Michael Brown. I also found Reliable sources including University of Arizona newspaper written by a Professor who is using the film as a teaching guide.

Hi, I submitted the draft and it was not accepted. May I ask for your advice on what I may be do more so that my article can be accepted? The comments are that the article did not show the notability of the organisation. However, I cited quite a number of sources about the organisation, which are books, websites, newspapers, etc. It seems to me that the organisation is quite notable regionally and internationally, and it is the only sizeable public relations organisation regionally, which made me have the interest to write the article. I'd understood from @Tokyogirl79: (original rejection) that if the film had been taken into the Museum's Collection that would make it notable in its own right and therefore there wasn't a need to confirm its notoriety in the press?

If that is the case, I believe it has been evidenced that the film is in the collection due to the ShowSpace it was exhibited in.

But please advise?

SwisterTwister I'm sorry, but that didn't address my question at all. What I was asking was, that the fact that it's been taken into a globally recognised Museum Museum of London is surely sufficient enough to establish its notability. The work, which is used to example how Londoners record their lives in the 21st Century (hence the title of the exhibition) had been compared by the curator to the likes of Samuel Pepys and James Boswell dairies in it's reflection of contemporary London Life.
As it will never receive a general cinema release, it cannot be expected to garner large press as a Movie would. But should that make it any less notable as a piece of work as it will be archived for the access of future generations?
Which additionally would appear to concur with the following:

The article I submitted was rejected because the reviewer was not convinced the subject was notable. I can't understand how this can be--the person is an academic professor and the article clearly demonstrated the following:

1. The person's research has made significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.

2. The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level.

3. The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society for which that is a highly selective honor (e.g., the IEEE).

5. The person holds or has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research (or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon).

I'm not clear on what more you need. Please help!

Draft:Men On The Border

Hey, I was wondering if you could weigh in at Draft:Men On The Border. The user (PCMorphy72) has been very nice and patient and there's currently four sources that I think would be considered notability-giving reliable sources. This and this are reviews for their work. They're brief, but they're written by Arbetarbladet and Sunday Mercury. I know that the Mercury is a tabloid and they're sources that I tend to avoid using, but there's never any sort of set thing against tabloids unless they prove themselves to be out and out untrustworthy and this is a review, not an article about the band. This is an article that talks about an upcoming performance and this is a review of that performance. Both are published in the Gefle Dagblad, which is categorized as a major media outlet on the Gävle article, but they're written by different people.

This isn't heavy, but I think it's enough to where the group could weakly pass NBAND. There's supposed to be an event in October that could result in more coverage, but of course that's not a guarantee. My inclination is that we could accept it, but I'm just somewhat concerned about its survival in the mainspace since AfC articles do tend to get heavily scrutinized. You're right, DragonSnake - there are quite a few articles on Wikipedia that suck. Doesn't mean that new ones should also be allowed which don't meet Wikipedia standards. Over time, standards have improved, 5-10 years ago, almost anything was allowed on. As time goes on, we weed out the articles which shouldn't be here. But there are only about 2500 active volunteer editors, and over 5 million articles, so some crap still remains. Your argument is called other stuff exists - not a valid argument for inclusion. The reason given for rejecting the event is that it's not notable enough. I beg to disagree. In addition to the references already in the submitted WIKI article, there have been more attention to this event in the last 3 weeks.

On the 30th anniversary of the walkout, 17 of the 35 tabulators held a reunion in Manila. The Filipino media was clamouring for interviews with the tabulators, and they agreed to several requests from many media organisations. The walkout by the tabulators was described as a pivotal event leading to the people power revolution at EDSA which saw the overthrow of dictator Ferdinand Marcos.

I would like to start a discussion at CSD:Talk to discuss how best to handle some of the stale userdrafts which do not currently fall neatly into any of the existing CSD categories.

I wanted to start with a brief history and started to write that you undertook the enormous task of going through Category:Stale userspace drafts to identify pages which deserve deletion. However, even as I started writing those words I realize I did not know the precise history. I’m not sure with your recent efforts started with that, started with something else and it became that or if your process is something other than I just described. Would you be so kind as to give me a brief history so that I can introduce the subject appropriately?

My intention is to point out that almost all of your nominations are quite clear-cut, but there may be a few that deserve further discussion. At the moment, it isn’t clear to me whether the best approach is to simply accept the current CSD criteria which might mean that a few of the useless drafts should simply be retained, whether we ought to tweak the current criteria to cover some of these useless pages, whether we ought to identify a new CSD to cover the situations or something else entirely. Sphilbrick When I started at Unused Drafts, I simply skipped or watchlisted anything that was questionable and may need MfD. Now recently, when I noticed so many of these were obvious starting companies and thus unlikely notable, I simply tag it as U5 if I believe it's simply not needed.

For example: John Jones started an article for his company with only the basic information (Jones & Associates Company was founded in 2011 by John Jones in Cleveland, Ohio) with nothing but their own websites and a few press releases. If it was of serious concern, I considered tagging for G11 and U5 especially because some of these cases, the article was started the exact year or shortly before the company started (I.e. Company started in 2011 and the article was started in 2011). Also, this was the same case with bands also, where it was obviously a band member who started the article with nothing else.

It's worth noting I would execute my own searches to find any available sources and if I found only their press releases and own websites or perhaps simply nothing at all, I would tag it as G11 or U5. This goes for MfD also, where a user would nominate an article with nothing but basic information, I would speedy tag it instead. If some of these were main article space, A7 would be applicable but but it is not (at least for user and draftspace). I know someone would think that some of these are a "work in progress" and it's still a draft with potential but some of these simply seem obvious enough to not be notable and not needed.

I know there's some talk at CSD:Talk about applying an expiration date (think of it as a close G13) and also to where drafts can also be deleted if the user had no enthusiasm for Wikipedia or any serious interests. It's also interesting to mention that WP:G13 actually mentions it could be applicable for user drafts but my understanding of it is that it needs to be explicitly tagged as AfC (not simply the Article Wizard itself). It's also worth noting that I would search to see if there was and currently still is a Wikipedia mainspace article and, of these, I would notice they had actually been deleted years before, so naturally, I would speedy tag it as G11 if that's how the original deletion went. Recently, a few cases, I'll simply redirect it to the existing article if it seems convincing enough.

Thanks for the review. The Flux Capacitors have countless references. I just didn't think that anything amounts anywhere close to CNN contacting the band to feature them, bringing them into their Los Angeles bureau, shelling out money for the story, and having Rocsi Diaz do the interview. You denied my new article submission for Draft:The_Champions_(documentary) saying it needed more "in-depth" 3rd party sources. Being new to wikipedia, I'd love some suggestions about what exactly that means.

I looked at wikipedia pages for other similar documentaries, such as Cartel Land and The Cove and feel like what I submitted is on par with those in terms of substance and style. The new-ness of the film means it doesn't yet have enough in terms of reviews, etc., to warrant another section, but I'm unsure why as-is, the draft isn't good enough. Any advice on other sections/information that could improve the article would definitely be appreciated. I note that you left a rather oddly-worded WP:PROD flag on the Natural Capital Initiative page which was subsequently removed by another user, who recommended WP:AfD instead. This is just to advise you that, in the light of your initial notice, I set to work and have completely restructured and referenced the article. I trust you will find this sufficient not to warrant an AfD flag, and that its contents are now more comprehensible?

As an aside, I do find it concerning that an uncontentious article can sit for some time - maybe years - in a poor state like this one did, but that someone spots it all of a sudden, slaps a notice on the page, and then someone else within in the Wikipedia community is expected to not only spot the warning flag, but also respond to it and put things right within just 7 days. You requested more reliable sources, yet I have cited the Houston Chronicle 7 times, major TV affiliates twice (ABC & CBS), two national news magazines (Next City & Politico), a major academic journal, and even the mayor of Houston, who all highlighted the important work of the Institute (and even came right out and said the Institute's work is important). I don't know what else could be added. Do you want more news clippings? There are hundreds of mentions of the Kinder Institute in the media, especially the Houston Chronicle, but I have tried to avoid being redundant. If it's just a matter of quantity, I can certainly add to it.

I have read the guidelines and feel like I clearly have met them, so I feel I am kind of left guessing at what various anonymous editors want without any clear instructions.

Honestly, I did my utmost best to find sources for this article, they are included as references, I don't know what more I can do. I translated this article from a dutch article (https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgel_van_de_Sint-Niklaaskerk_in_Gent), which apparently is approved, using the same references a I use in my article. Many people asked for a translation of the original article, so there is a need to provide this information about an important cultural heritage object. Also, in my opinion, it is verifiable (most sources are in Dutch, because the subject is in Belgium), but probably not if you do not master Dutch. Is it fair that people with a degree in computers and programming have to approve or deny content that they do know almost nothing about ? And last but not least, it is very true information, as I have been at the location a few times. Is that not enough for Wikipedia ? If not, I will publish the article on another website, and regret that an public online encyclopedia is not so very public and open and free as some want others to believe. I understand and accept the need for establishing notability, and I accept that I have failed to do so in this case. However, I wonder if you would re-consider the same article in th elight of the criteria for Notability as it applies to creative professionals: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Notability_%28people%29

To pick out what I consder the key sentence, "The person has created or played a major role in co-creating a significant or well-known work or collective body of work. In addition, such work must have been the subject of an independent book or feature-length film or of multiple independent periodical articles or reviews." That is Robert. He is one of the UK's bestselling self-help authors, with over 100,000 books sold, all three of them published by one the world's oldest and most venerable book publishers John Wiley and Sons (est 1807).

I'd also like to ask your opinion on the subject of third-party sources. You're right to say that not a huge number of third-party sources have written about Robert, but it's equally true to say that some of the most significant sources in the UK (e.g The Times newspaper) have regularly commissioned Robert to write stand-alone articles for them, as a topic expert and with his own exclusive by-line. I realise that is not quite as notable as having The Times write about him, but given all the other supporting criteria, is it not very much the same thing?

My article on Sunday Rest was rejected stating that references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage about the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. The sources or references given in the article are from reliable sources like Hindu, Economic Times, The Huffington post, Business Week and Business today. Kindly let me know if the issue is with the references or if there are some portions of the article that need references. Also pls let me know if any of the content portions have to be removed. It will be very helpful if you can let me know about this so that I can fix the issues and make the article eligible for publishing. Thanks for your time.

If you had checked the sources, you would have seen that most, if not all, of them are full page reviews, multi-page articles, and full length interviews from independent, reliable, third party sources. A google news search for Nassuet brings up 11 articles about Nic Nassuet. Jamsphere, Carpe Nocturne, and Billboard are print magazines, two of which have national distribution. The Rocky Mountain News is a major newspaper. A search for his other professional name "Nick Ortiz-Trammell" pulls up two additional hits on google news - The Hollywood Reporter and The Denver Post, both major news sources.

In the examples below you will see that the majority of sources cited are extensive articles, reviews, and interviews, including major publications like Contact Music, The Big Takeover, Huffington Post (twice) and Shockya:

Gothic folk music is dark and full of despair. Fortunately, Nassuet doesn't get swallowed up in the whole doom and gloom aspects. Yes, his songs are emotional and stygian, but they don't leave listeners suicidal.

'Eleutherios' contains nine tracks that vary enough to keep things interesting. The best track on the album is 'Immured', which carries heavy influences of rock opera. The song starts with delicate strings, and then Nassuet's voice joins in, backed up by Catrina Grimm, who has a delightfully light and airy voice. Tinker-Bellish might be an apt description.

'When It Falls' presents four different instruments: guitar, bass, cello and violin. One expects a layered sound; but it's not there. The musicians manage to maintain a Spartan quality, which provides a distinctive sound.

'Cross and Crown' and 'Goodnight, Goodbye' feature thick layers of acoustic guitar that drive their melodies. And both tunes present a heavy dose of pomp and circumstance. 'Goodnight, Goodbye' tosses in a Gothic choir that actually works quite well, especially since it avoids the tendency of many Gothic folk songs - to go all Vincent Price on listeners.

'Eleutherios' is a good album. However, an immediate qualifier must be added: it's a good album if you like Gothic folk music. If you don't, this definitely won't be your cup of tea. Like most sub-genres of music, Gothic folk is an acquired taste. It takes some getting used to because it's heavy on the angst, black, depressing and often overplayed; although Nassuet avoids the latter error.

What is the most trouble you’ve ever gotten into?

I guess that depends on your version of “trouble”. For me, trouble is when I can’t do what I want to do, so the most trouble I think I have been in would be the hospitalizations for mysterious illnesses, months with a catheter, kidney stones, wheelchair days, and stuff like that. If you mean trouble with authorities, fights, or legal issues, well, I used to be a patrol leader for the Guardian Angels, served in the Army, conducted undercover investigations for animal rights groups, led protests, and was briefly a private investigator for some high profile political clients, so I’ve been in all kinds of crazy situations. I’ve been a professional troublemaker.

What are the five things you can’t live without?

Aside from the obvious like water, air, food, and medicine, I can’t live without Danzig memes. The source of life is in the dank Danzig memes. He who controls the Danzig memes controls the universe.

Comedy is essential too. I need to laugh often. That’s why I watch Kanye West’s interviews and twitter feed. Kanye West is the greatest unintentional comedian of our generation, the Forrest Gump of comedy, the hip-hop Sarah Palin. I’m really glad that Kanye unwittingly stepped up to take the position in our culture that was vacated when Stephen Colbert pulled the plug on “The Colbert Report”.

I also don’t think that I would want to live without genuine people. Genuine people make our brief time here much more pleasant. It makes all the difference in every endeavor.

It should probably go without saying that I can’t live without fur people. I wouldn’t be alive today without dogs and cats in my life. When I was a really little kid, and my older brother was dying in the hospital from heart disease and a botched blood transfusion, our family dog was the only one who really understood me. I would sit and look out the window and think, as a four year old child, about death, and life and what it meant, and Toby, our dog, would come and sit with me. It meant the world.

Lastly, I couldn’t live without Italian food. Without pizza, lasagna, spaghetti, and garlic bread, the world would be a dismal and hopeless place.

What’s your favorite song to belt out in the car or the shower?

I don’t really have a favorite song, and I’ll sing anything that I know the lyrics to, however everything usually comes back to a Misfits, AFI, or Nine Inch Nails song, which is why we have plans to highlight some of those songs on future releases.

What kind of guitar do you play? And why?

I play several. Eleutherios was recorded on a Breedlove acoustic, and I have an endorsement with them because I think they make really fantastic instruments. Great tone, durable, hand-made, constructed in the USA - can’t beat that.

I have this old Ibanez from ages ago too. I mostly use it to write when I travel. It is the lowest grade, mass-manufactured, acoustic guitar that Ibanez has ever made. Absolute bottom of the barrel. Over the decades I’ve glued rubies, emeralds, and sapphires to it, covered it in stickers from the places it has travelled to, dropped it more than a few times, and it is still kicking and sounds great. You don’t need to spend a bunch of money to get a good instrument.

What musicians influenced you the most?

My mother was the most influential musician to me. She would sing and play the guitar for us when we were really little, and I thought that was the coolest thing.

In terms of well-known musicians... that’s tough. Of course, lots of musicians have influenced me, just like anyone else who ever picked up an instrument, bought a CD, or listened to the radio. Everyone who is doing their own thing in their own way is a positive influence. Even if I don’t prefer their sound, or if their attempts at self-expression are lost on me, I still respect the drive, confidence, and passion that many artists exhibit. We are very fortunate to live in a time where people like Trent Reznor, Glenn Danzig, David Bowie, Davey Havok, Nivek Ogre, David Tibet, Praga Khan, and Buzz McCoy can find an audience, share their gifts, and inspire us with their originality and creativity.

I heard Lionel Richie in Conversation with Kevin Spacey the other day at a Musicares event, and I found Lionel’s story really influential, even though our musical styles are worlds apart. I love that he was open and unashamed of the fact that, like me, he can’t read a lick of music. He said that Frank Sinatra and Luciano Pavarotti were the same way. That was a pretty inspiring thing to hear.

In my review of your EP, I described your musical style as Gothic folk or Neo-folk. How would you describe it?

If you are talking about Eleutherios, I would actually describe it as an LP/Album since it is nine songs. As much as I love, and find inspiration in, the music of David Tibet and Current 93, I don’t think that we really have much in common with neo-folk bands or neo-folk music. Gothic Folk is distinct from Neo-folk, and is not “Goth-Folk”. We have a stronger rock sound than neo-folk bands normally do, and I can’t think of any neo-folk fans, playlists, or websites who have picked up our stuff. Neo-folk tends to not have much variety in the vocals, the lyrics are often more blatantly esoteric than ours, and since we are defining what Gothic Folk means as an emerging genre we are not locked into a rigid definition or standard the way that an established genre like Neo-folk is.

I first used the term “Gothic Folk” about 16 years ago to my friends as a way to describe the slow, folksy-acoustic, grunge, metal, and punk covers I was doing and it seems to have stuck around. For the most part, I don’t describe the music. Most of my interactions have been with people who already heard the music, so I didn’t really need to define it, but when I was at the Grammys a few days ago and surrounded by people who hadn’t yet heard the album I was asked “What kind of music do you create?” probably a hundred times, and I just kind of froze up when people asked that because I don’t generally think in terms of genre. I like what I like, and dislike what I dislike, and you may not like what I like, and that’s okay. Beyond that, I don’t like to label, or put a lot of definitions on things.

When trying to define the music I usually quote what magazines and blogs say about it. For example, Scallywag Magazine called us “The King and Queen of Gothic Folk” and said “It’s a pure gothic folk record”. Static said “If you’re looking for the lovechild of the genres Gothic and Folk, look no further”. Contact Music recommended it “if you like Gothic folk music.” New York Music Examiner, Verbal Slap, Delusions of Adequacy, Pop Dose, The Big Takeover and a bunch of other publications keep referring to Eleutherios as a Gothic Folk album too, and the Global Music Awards gave us a gold medal for “Alternative Rock Gothic Folk”, so if that’s the label that music industry professionals want to use I’m not going to stand in their way, but I’m not going to restrict myself to their opinions.

Personally, I think that “Eleutherios” is largely a folk-rock/acoustic grunge album with classical music influence, dark poetic lyrics, instrumentation that hints of punk, baroque, and Celtic music, and vocals that can be both low key and emotional, or a rock tenor belt... but that’s what “Gothic Folk” is. They keep calling this album “Gothic Folk”, so whatever “Eleutherios” is must be what Gothic Folk is.

Why Gothic folk rather than alternative rock or some other style?

Gothic Folk is a branch of Alternative Rock. We’ve won folk, rock, and alternative awards, so Eleutherios, and by extension Gothic Folk, is a hybrid of multiple styles and genres, while not restricted to any specific one.

This album is an acoustic album because that’s how the music sounded when I heard it in my head. I hate trying to wrangle a live band and I wanted to have something that I could perform with just a microphone and a guitar, so I am glad that it came out this way.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs?

I wish that I knew. As things are now, the inspiration finds me. Usually in dreams, or just after I wake up, but sometimes at inopportune moments where I have to rush to the privacy of a public bathroom to hum the song into my phone before it fades.

What is your songwriting process? Does the music come first and then the lyrics?

Sometimes I pick up a new instrument and a song comes out, but usually I hear a song in a dream, or it flashes through my mind during the day, and I hum it into my phone. Later I go and plunk it out on guitar, and then a word will come to me which becomes the title. After that the lyrics happen. The whole process usually takes ten minutes to an hour. For the most part, I just listen to the music and the words I hear drifting through my head space and record them as they find me.

Will you be doing another Gothic folk album in the future? Or do you think you might try a different genre?

I can’t control the music. It comes when it comes, and takes whatever form it takes. There is no criterion and I have no expectation for the music to come in any form. I have a couple of hundred parts and pieces of songs that have come to me. Some are marches, others orchestra pieces, some sound kind of pop-punk-ish. I don’t know what the music is going to do. I don’t anticipate it, and I don’t project my expectations onto it.

For example, “Throe” was a collection of horror punk songs that I recorded 15 years ago and just found last year. That’s what the music sounded like in my head, so that’s what came out in the studio. My upcoming record “Torment - An Acoustic Tribute To Danzig” is going to be an acoustic collection of songs by The Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig. I heard the rough first draft of our cover of Danzig’s song “How The Gods Kill” and so far I really like it. It sounds similar to Eleutherios in mood and atmosphere, but more developed and stronger. All in all, this is probable better termed a Gothic Folk tribute to Danzig, Samhain, and The Misfits, but most people don’t know Samhain, and Gothic Folk is pretty new to many ears, so an Acoustic Tribute to Danzig will make more sense to most listeners.

Was Eleutherios well-received by the critics? By listeners?

We keep getting royalties from listeners who keep spinning it, buying the CD, and downloading tracks, and we have had dozens of very positive reviews, many of which were truly glowing. We’ve won top honors in the global music awards, radio music awards, indie music channel awards, IMEA awards, etc., in addition to 13 “For Your Consideration” placements in the first round of the 58th Grammy awards. The judges and critics for all of those competitions are seasoned industry veterans and they seemed to like “Eleutherios” well enough to put their names and reputations behind it in high-profile industry publications like “Billboard”, so I think it would be fair to say that the album was well received by both critics and listeners.

Will you be touring in the near future? If so, where?

Yes. We have a short West Coast tour coming up, as well as a mountain cities tour, and then an extended European tour all scheduled for this year.

It’s presumptuous to ask at this point, but are there any new songs on the drawing board? If so, when do you plan to go back into the studio?

Not presumptuous at all. I’ve been very vocal about the upcoming projects. I’m back in the studio right now working on “Torment - An Acoustic Tribute to Danzig”. We also have a new full-length album of original content called “Tremble” that we need to record this year. The label is getting a bit grouchy because I have been dragging my heels, so I need to get on it. We have four or five songs for it already. I’m just waiting on the music to manifest, and then we will complete it.

I have a bunch of new instruments - handmade Greek lyres, traditional Indian instruments like sitars, really spacey sounding steel tongue drums, and electric guitars with the hottest pickups that can rage with the best of them. I’m not sure which, if any, of those sounds will end up on the full-length album of new original songs, but I think that it gives the music more opportunity to manifest in different forms.

If you look at the spine of Eleutherios you will see that it says “Sphere Ten”. “Throe” has the words “Sphere Nine”, so it would appear that we are counting down to something, which should tell you a bit about what we have planned as far as new material goes.

Gothic folk music is dark. That being said, what is it about Gothic folk that attracts you?

What you call “dark”, I call romantic, and I mean that in the classical sense of romanticism as the glorification of all aspects of the human condition. Sure, songs like “Immured” contain themes of death, betrayal, and hauntings, but there’s a reason the story of a bride immured into a wall on her wedding day has permeated European culture for centuries. There are beautiful, life affirming, themes in that story in spite of, and sometimes because of, the apparently tragic themes.

Life is a continuing struggle to balance the experiences of suffering and peace. Too much, or too little, of either one causes severe mental distress. If you listen closely to Eleutherios, both to the individual songs, and to the album as a whole concept, you will see this struggle, and go on a journey where that balance is sought, and eventually attained. The songs were arranged in a very specific way so that the entire album is a journey. The individual tracks have been able to stand independent of the whole on the radio and through sales as singles, but if you aren’t listening to the entire album in sequence and going on the journey, you are missing out on most of the experience.

I am not especially attracted to Gothic Folk as a genre, especially since it didn’t exist as a genre until very recently, and the few of us creating Gothic Folk music are still defining what that means. I don’t think that I have any acoustic or folk artists on any of my playlists. Most of what I listen to falls into the rock, metal, punk, and industrial categories.

Actually focusing on entertaining the audience is a rare thing these days. So many artists seem fine with playing some version of themselves but it takes a true artist to slip in and out of roles, to fully and thoroughly pull in the audience or listener. Back in the day, you had Freddie Mercury, Roger Daltry, Robert Plant and the like… Now it’s all too real and fourth wally for me.

Meet Nic Nassuet and Catrina Grimm, the king and queen of gothic folk. The pair bring all of their theatre experience, writing, and musical stage presence out to play on Nassuet’s latest project Eleutherios.

Nassuet and Grimm compliment each other vocally and are equally dedicated to fulfilling a complete experience for their audience. Fine live performers. Find studio partners. They exceed expectation.

Sounding a bit like Nick Cave, but mostly like himself, Nassuet doesn’t shy away from drawing deep emotions out of his listeners. Nassuet has aptly branded his music acoustic horror punk and gothic folk, replete with a string quartet.

Eleutherios could be a rock opera, could be a sound score for any number of film genres, a hoity toity ampitheatre performance, or a big show for an arena. Nic Nassuet and Catrina Grimm can scale it up or down, depending upon the fire code.

I offer up two tracks from Nassuet’s record. First up, “She Rides Moonlight.” Very Nick Drake. Very b-side Kansas and I loved those b sides. “She Rides Moonlight” – besides being a well named song – is all shimmery in that total rock opera way.

Nassuet brings a rawness to the sparse and driving “When It Falls.” This track is a good indication of the kind of magic Nassuet and Grimm can do with just a few instruments. That stripped down power… that’s their thing.

Nassuet is acoustic, operatically punk, or mysterious and dark. I applaud that. Someone had to pick up where theatre nerd-turned rocker Meatloaf left off. What’s truly hot about their music is the way they approach story. You want to listen and keep listening to Nic Nassuet and the lady Grimm.

And that’s quite a feat in a world sans attention spans and bereft of the art of performance.

ALBUM REVIEW: Nic Nassuet, ‘Eleutherios’ written by Allison Johnelle Boron With a background in punk, rock, and metal bands glimmering alongside a few pivotal roles in musicals like Sweeney Todd (in which he played the “demon barber”), Los Angeles-based artist Nic Nassuet has combined his mixed-bag of influences into Eleutherious, a nine-track collection of Gothic folk and dark pop that offers the listener a surprisingly accessible experience.

Channeling figureheads like Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, Nassuet combines a wholly folky sound with vocals that sometimes ebb on stadium-rock worthy. On “Cross and Crown,” the album’s opener, he beckons the listener in with smooth, lulling melodies before unleashing his rockier side, but creates a super listenable barometer against which the rest of the album is measured. Simply put, each track builds on the one before it. Some artists don’t understand the importance of creating a cohesive effort within an album format; Nassuet does. Even on sweet, string-heavy “Immured,” he manages to incorporate a little driving rock into a track that might be best classified as chamber music. In fact, Eleutherious contains a few tunes that showcase Nassuet’s softer side, including “Goodnight, Goodbye,” and the mysterious “The Giver.”

For those just dipping their toes into this style of music, however, “When It Falls” might be the best introduction to Nassuet and possibly Gothic folk as a whole. Its pop underpinnings and repetitious chorus render it a complete earworm; it’s definitely the one you’ll be humming later. But I’d also be willing to wager that this album is one you’ll keep around for a long, long time; its evergreen melodies and deep-seated heart and soul make it a staple for anyone’s collection.

Set against a passionate guitar, percussion and bongo beats, the musician revels in the fact that death has taken a peaceful form. Nassuet’s vocals are infused with a vulnerability as he sings about how he can’t feel anything. He grippingly notes that he has started hunting his own dream and is trying to make it on his own way. But he feels that he’s never going to make it without the woman he loves, and after losing her, he got lost within himself. ‘Eleutherios’ then flows into the emotionally-driven song, ‘Black Dress.’ Aided by a soulful violin and subdued guitar, Nasuet addresses the familiarity of what is inevitable-he has fallen prey to the glamour of a mesmerizing silver screen siren. While the chorus ultimately becomes predictable and somewhat tedious towards the end of the track, the singer still enthralling sings about how he was captivated by the woman as she wore the black dress. He also intriguingly notes how he became emotional over the way she commands a strong presence in society. An alluring sense of understated drama then continues on the album’s first single, ‘She Rides Moonlight.’ The song is mostly notably driven by acoustic and subtle chords and a sense of tribute in its instruments, particularly the violin. While Nassuet’s vocals aren’t as commanding on the track as the previous entries on the record, he will surely capture many listeners’ sympathy when he sings how his love for a woman has taken control of his life. ‘Goodnight Goodbye’ is the next captivating track on ‘Eleutherios,’ as Nassuet offers a telling glimpse into his soul as a romantic outsider with the help of an alluring guitar. The musician harrowingly sings about how he constantly hears the voice of the woman he loves, but that does little to reassure him as he contemplative over where his life is headed. Even though he feels like his life is passing him by, he’s determined not to experience any more pain and suffering. Nassuet’s latest album then transitions into the captivating entry ‘The Giver,’ which finds its strength in a deep simplicity. Driven by a taunting guitar and a bittersweet nostalgic violin, the singer grippingly reveals that he nowhere to run to as he tries to move on with his life. While he also emotionally notes can sometimes see the light, he feels that it will never shine on him, as all hope for him is gone. ‘Eleutherios’ then transitions into another one of its most note-worthy tracks, the emotionally-driven ballad, ‘The Nothing.’ With the help of raw emotions and a gripping violin, Nassuet sings that he’s accepting that his soul is fading. He feels like there’s nothing left inside of him to offer the woman he loves. So he urges her to walk away, so that he can let the fire in his soul wither and fade. The rustic blues-inspired ‘Down’ is the next entry on the musician’s new record. Propelled by a gritty violin, Nassuet emotionally sings about how a woman’s forever in his soul, and the two are harrowingly dragging each other down. ‘Eleutherios’ ends with the acoustic guitar-driven track, ‘Cross and Crown,’ on which Nassuet’s domineering hard-rock vocals are driven by charged emotion as he sings about the nuances of tragedies. As he notes that his heart is crumbling and prays for deliverance, he also reveals that the woman he loved initially waited for him. He also emotionally notes that there isn’t any hope of recovering from her subsequent deep betrayal of not truly staying with him until he could truly be with her. People can often harrowingly focus on the disappointment they upsettingly encounter throughout their lives. by Cody Conard Nic Nassuet is a singer/songwriter from Hollywood, and has just released his new gothic folk album, Eleutherios. There’s a strong air of 80’s gothic bands like Bauhaus and Sisters of Mercy throughout the album, especially on songs backed with a fuller sound like “Down.” This injection of influences on even the quieter, folky songs like “The Nothing” and “Cross and Crown,” means he often veer towards the Neofolk genre, pioneered by the likes of Death In June and Current 93. But Nassuet lacks the true esotericism of these bands, so they end up sounding closer to the psychedelic and melancholy folk of Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley.

Backed with strings and *Catrina Grimm*on background vocals, they invariably end up sounding majorly baroque on ballads like “Immured.” It is on these moments, especially on the album closer “She Rides Moonlight,” that they’re at their greatest and even verge on true beauty. If only they leaned less on a gothic rock crutch and put more emphasis on the baroque and softer elements the album would be even stronger, but as it is there still some fine moments on this record. Eleutherios may be uneven at times, but when it tries to be Pink Moon instead of Floodland, there begins to be glimpses of something truly inspired that could only grow with time.

Nic Nassuet, critically acclaimed multi-instrumentalist and rocker, has just had his debut album Eleutherios, listed among Global Music Awards' Top Ten Albums of 2015, alongside current Grammy nominees. His studio effort that was released in April of this year, houses a dynamic collection of sounds drawing inspiration from folk, acoustic, Gothic, and other genres. Thus, the album has been lauded for its immensely creative direction, lyrical prowess, and instrumental tact.

Your music is very personal. Tell us about the soul of your music.

I really don't know how to describe the soul of this music. I should start by saying that I don't really write music and I don't consider myself a musician in the classical sense. The music comes to me randomly at times, mostly in dreams and then words start to form in the dark regions of my mind and those become titles and lyrics. It is more of an exercise in listening than anything else. The soul of the music, or source of inspiration, remains a mystery to me. A mystic would say that the source is external, a materialist would attribute it to my subconscious communicating with my consciousness. I try not to judge or evaluate but simply accept it and try to provide the best outlet and vehicle for the music that I can.


Your music seems lyrics driven. Talk about your lyrics.

I think that as a singer from a very early age my mind tends to focus on lyrics more than anything else in a song. If I can't sing along to it then I don't usually listen to it. Similarly, if the lyrics are not meaningful to me then I cannot connect to a piece, regardless of how well-crafted the song is. There are many artists whose voices, or songs, I was not particularly fond of until I heard the lyrics and then fell in love with the artist and their message.

The lyrics part of my process comes after I hear the song. The way the whole thing usually works is that I hear a snippet of a song in my head, most often in a dream, but sometimes while moving about the house at random throughout the day. When I hear the music I have to rush to my phone, even in the middle of the night, to hum the song into my voice recorder app or else I will lose it. However, there have been a few instances where a song has been persistent and has haunted me until I gave it life.

Later I revisit the song and plunk it out on a guitar. I cannot read music and do not know notes, chords, scales or even string names so I cannot write it out, everything has to be auditory. While plunking it out I really get to know the song and it starts to communicate with me in depth. Most often it gives me a word which becomes the title or theme of the song. From there other words form around that original word those words become the lyrics and the song comes to life.


Review Fix said of your music, If Edgar Allen Poe was in a band, he’d be in one with Nic Nassuet. What do you think they mean by that observation?

I think that Review Fix was comparing the darker poetic themes of Eleutherios to the works of Edgar Allen Poe, which is very high praise. Some of the songs on Eleutherios are stories with characters and a plot so the comparison to a storyteller is not inaccurate. I never expected to be compared to such a great artist though, I find it very humbling.

As your music matures, its likely to change. It has been said that your music echoes genres such as horror punk and garage. Perhaps it is an impossible question, but in your mind’s eye what sound and meaning do you want your music to have in fifteen years?

You are correct, that is an impossible question. I am not a person with many wants. I think it would be more fair to say that I do what the music wants, and as long as the music wants me I will continue to do my best to bring it into being. What form the music will choose to take in the future is a mystery to me. At present, the music tells me to purchase new instruments because it wants to speak through the tones and notes of Ancient Greece and India for now, so I have acquired a number of strange and exotic instruments to better serve the music.

I trust that the music knows what is best. I had never even held a mandolin, but the music told me to buy one. I ordered one on the internet and She Rides Moonlight came out of the instrument when I held it. That song has gone on to be placed in movies, won awards, added to compilations and played on many radio stations around the world. I had no idea what I was doing. The music can, and probably will, take many forms in the future. I will not know them until they happen.


Tell us about the fellow musicians with whom you play. How do they influence your sound?

It's a very strange collaboration live. Our sound changes depending on who is in the backing band. Many times it is just me and a guitar. Other times we will have bass, Cajon guitar and hand percussion. It just depends on who is available. In the studio I sometimes find musicians who have an interesting instrument and ask them to contribute to the sound. Sometimes it works better than I had imagined. Other times, it doesn't sound as good as I had hoped and so we scrap that instrument's track.


If your music is a gift to your fans, what do you want them to say about that gift?

I don't know that it is a gift to fans but the songs are intended for others as much as, if not more than, the songs provide catharsis for me. I feel very strongly that the people who are supposed to hear these songs will hear them and resonate with them as long as I do my best to provide the right sounds, people, work ethic, and publicity to the music. However, I am keenly aware that this music is not for everyone. There are people who need it and I hope that they find it.

I don't want people to say anything about the music other than what they want to say. If you enjoy it and it is meaningful to you, I am happy that I was able to help facilitate your pleasure in some small way. If it is not to your liking, that's alright too.

This award winning singer songwriter’s rise to prominence in the independent community has been a long time coming ever since his debut on the stage, where he initially got to stretch his vocal chops. Soon, though, Nassuet pioneered a style of his own, combining vibrant, dramatic performances with a myriad of influences. Combining poetic lyrics and solid and deep musicianship thanks to a slew of solid musicians behind him, Nassuet is able to put a definable face on the Gothic Rock genre for anyone who either had no idea what it was or had prior predispositions.

Eerily charming, soft and silky, yet powerful and dark, Nassuet’s work would fit in perfectly in a video game the likes of “Castlevania” or “Silent Hill.”

While many tracks feel and sound like lullabies, there’s a power before his vocals at times that add an extra element as well. However, it’s the softer stuff that will resonate with non-fans of the genre the most. Tracks like “The Giver” and “Good Night, Goodbye,” make great use of violin and guitar and thanks to the imagery provided by Nassuet’s voice, it’s almost like a look at something living and breathing. In the case of “The Giver,” it’s almost like a track that Jack Skellington would sing to his child (if he had one) in “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” It makes sense considering Nassuet’s background in theatre, but to those who have never seen him before, it’ll just be an interesting song that makes you think.

With an almost Jim Croce/Shawn Mullins start from Nassuet on the guitar, “Good Night, Goodbye” is also a beautiful, softer piece that is surprisingly dark and Poe-esque. After a few listens, you’ll sing along, wondering when you, indeed, went goth. But have no fear, it’s just a catchy track, powered by solid lyrics. In the end, his music can easily be labeled, but shouldn’t. It’s just well-polished and dark.

“Black Dress” showcases a more gruff side of Nassuet, an angry folk-ballad where he sounds a bit like Neil Diamond. Add in more violin from Edward Hong and a catchy hook and it’s very easy to become a fan of Nassuet’s work. On “Immune,” Nassuet is able to add another element in Catrina Grimm on backup vocals, adding more goth to formula. With a nice amount of layers already, Grimm’s equally as sexy and taut voice puts the song over the top.

Solid on the guitar and chilling on vocals, he’s definitely something different. Although his stuff isn’t the most radio-friendly, it’s deep, thought-provoking and without a doubt polished.



Indie Habit suggested Nassuet's music to fans of goth, punk, horror rock, folk, Celtic, grunge, punk and neofolk music[20]

If you’re not a fan of Goth rock or horror punk music, don’t let the cover art of Nic Nassuet’s new album “Eleutherios” scare you off. To call Nic Nassuet’s music a hybrid is an understatement. Nic is trying to live in the Goth world but this record is not your typical Goth offering. It is so much more that will appeal to fans of several genres. Yes, this record will appeal to those disciples of Goth and punk and horror rock but it will also appeal to fans of folk, Celtic, grunge, punk and neofolk music. Violins, mandolins and cellos are not the typical instrumentation of Goth rock but this record is not typical in any sense of the word.

Nassuet is a seasoned performer, and not simply a musical performer. His stage presence is honed from years of work in musical theater (“Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street”, “Side Show”, “Doomsday Cabaret”) and he brings his music to life through that magic he exudes from the stage. One thing that is immediately noticeable from a casual listening of the album is the passion and emotion dripping from every track. Not many performers can impart that level of dedication and fervor through a record but Nic succeeds on all fronts. Nassuet is an award winning songwriter and his songs are well crafted and the arrangements show off the material to perfection.

Thematically, Nassuet’s music fits squarely in the Goth rock sphere. The title of the album, Eleutherios conjures up images of ancient Greek bacchanalia but musically, this offering is much harder to classify. The music is so universal that it should win over fans of multiple genres and appeal to fans of almost any genre. The best tracks on the album are ‘Black Dress’, ‘When It Falls’, ‘Down’ and ‘She Rides Moonlight’. If you get the opportunity to see Nic Nassuet live, it is a show you won’t want to miss. Highly entertaining and very enjoyable.

Blogcritics compared his style to the Celtic music, Operatic Rock, and Grunge genres[21].

“Liberator”—that’s what the album’s title, Eleutherios, means in Greek. I’m not quite sure what Nic Nassuet had in mind with this title, but it could be that he is trying to both liberate himself from the restraints imposed by today’s music standards, while at the same time free himself from various demons and ghosts that seem to haunt most of the 10 tracks on Eleutherios, which was released late last month. It comes as no surprise then, that trying to place this album in a category becomes somewhat of a futile attempt at tidiness. It’s a little bit of gothic rock and folk, has strong accents of acoustic music with clear whiffs of traditional Celtic elements, and goes into operatic rock territory at times. While it sometimes feels that Hollywood, California’s Nassuet is trying and failing to go full on gothic with his music, it gives the tracks a certain real edge in that most people are licked constantly by despair rather than immersed in its dark, raging depths. Through the use of rather poetic and simple, yet meticulously built soundscapes, Nassuet walks listeners through the darkness without leaving them to drown. Nassuet (guitar, vocals) and Catrina Grimm (backing vocals) are the only permanent members of this artistic endeavour, which is helped by the likes of Josh Riccio (percussion, background vocals, and effects) and William Stewart (violin, bass, viola, and cello). There seems to be three major categories of songs on this release. The first is composed of acoustic guitar-led tracks. “Cross and Crown” and “Goodnight, Goodbye” also feature vocals echoing as if in a big empty space, giving them a certain sense of grandeur and depth. “Goodnight, Goodbye” has short bursts of a choir doing backing vocals that add a bit of an auditory tingle to the listening experience. Its overall feel is that of a dark lullaby that would fit nicely on any angst-filled television series. The mid-tempo “When It Falls” brings in quite a few instruments—violin, cello, bass, and guitar—yet manages to remain, interestingly enough, quite sparse. Anthemic at certain moments, it captures a little bit of the 1990s grunge spirit.


The second category could be defined as simply layered rocks songs. “Down” features the contrasting, yet complementary sounds of delicate strings and Nassuet’s harsh and almost defiant vocals. The plucked guitar notes that open “Black Dress” bring to mind a red flamenco dress, an impression very quickly rectified by Nassuet’s harsh vocals and the familiar rock melody that kicks in. An almost shy violin highlights the song throughout but still leaves it a little too bare at times, which could have been avoided with just a single extra layer—some drums, for example. The third category of tracks are operatic rock style ballads. “Immured” opens with strings, giving it a certain sense of grandeur while the guitar strumming brings the tune back down to the ground. Similarly, Catrina Grimm’s almost dainty vocals, which blend with the delicately played strings, contrast with Nassuet’s harsher, angst-ridden vocals that complement the guitar-driven melody. “The Nothing” is more of the same—string opening, guitar strummed, vocals echoing as if in a big empty space—while the subdued vocals in “The Giver” make it a little different from the other songs in this category. Nassuet’s Eleutherios features solid instrumentation, interesting melodies, and a unique mixture of sounds and styles. The album is not for everyone and might seem like a tease to some, as it touches upon numerous genres without making a commitment to any of them. On Nic Nassuet’s newest release, “Eleutherios,” he combines guitar, violin and vocals to create a collection of passionate and stirring songs. His style could be described as Folk Rock or Alternative Rock, but he brings something unique to each of these genres with his edgy acoustic style combined with the beauty of strings and pure female vocals.

My favorite aspect of this album is the way Nassuet brings a rock sensibility into the melodic tones of the violin, piano, guitar and other vocals. This gives his songs a unique sound as they are infused with both the rock feel of Nassuet’s voice and the melodic feel of his other elements. This sound seems to set a dark, moody tone that is intriguing and easy to get into.


This balance of rough edge and sweet melody is evident in songs like “Immured” which seems like a dance between male and female vocals that are at times unexpected because of their dissimilarity. But the difference in vocals is yet another way Nassuet achieves the fusion of rock with a softer sound. Both elements add passion to his music, and they balance each other. Nassuet is quite innovative and kept me interested in each song with this style.

On songs like “Goodnight, Goodbye,” Nassuet shows the diversity of his sound and talent as it is a soft, acoustic song in which his voice is sweet and mellow. This varies from songs in which he uses his voice more powerfully to create a fuller and more passionate sound. I really like songs like “Goodnight, Goodbye,” because its stripped back sound showcases Nassuet’s vocal and instrumental talent found in their simplicity.

I think this album is original and fascinating—unlike many singer/songwriters that make music today, Nic Nassuet finds a way in each song to infuse different styles and create unique, diverse but balanced music. I think he breathes new life into the Folk Rock genre.

The first thing you’ll notice listening “Eleutherios,” the new album from L.A. singer Nic Nassuet, is how his vocals use raw, gritty, emotional tones in varied ways. Nassuet labels himself as gothic folk, but you’ll also find hints of rock n roll in there, even if he keeps things strictly acoustic.

Some of the album’s highlights include “Immured,” “The Giver” and “She Rides Moonlight.”

Nic Nassuet pressIf you’re looking for a track that’s more original than any of the others, “Immured” definitely checks that box. Having spirited female vocals provided by Catrina Grimm in the verses as Nassuet handles the chorus, along with the eerie fiddle/acoustic guitar backing instrumentals, makes this song soar.

On an album filled with eerie sounds, “The Giver” may be the eeriest. The guitar, the way Nassuet whispers/sings the lyrics and the words themselves make for something that sounds like it belongs in a vampire movie, and not one of those lame ones filled with glitter.

Then, on “She Rides Moonlight,” which closes out the album, Nassuet shows his gentle side in a song that takes you on an epic journey of discovery. The imagery of a woman riding the moonlight is one that works. It’s a powerful picture that makes the song that much more textured, along with the faint female backup vocals.

Overall, while Nassuet sounds quite a bit like acts such as Guns n Roses or Jeff Buckley, once you get past those comparisons, you’ll start to discover the true mastery of this album. Nassuet’s greatest strength is his powerful and raw singing voice. He can sing loudly, he can sing softly, and he can do a little of both on the same track at times. It’s a real joy to hear on nearly every track.

The world has taken notice of Nassuet’s gifts, too, as “Eleutherios” was recently named as among the top 10 albums of 2015 by the Global Music Awards. He was one of only a few Americans who made the list, as well as the only rock or alternative name on the list. He also was awarded three Global Music Awards gold medals for Album, Emerging Artist, and Alternative Rock: Gothic Folk. GMA Gold medalists have performed for the UN, Heads of State, Popes, and won Grammmys. The Global Music Awards recognition launches Nassuet into a very exciting 2016 which will see him touring across the globe where he will be bringing his music to new frontiers.

Before becoming a solo act, Nassuet served as the front-man for several metal and punk bands. Drawing on his life-experience Nassuet’s music often finds itself rooted in the dark, mysterious and melodic, his official bio states.

She Rides Moonlight is a tender track that touches upon an earlier musical tradition even as Nic Nassuet and featured vocalist Catrina Grimm create something that speaks to current styles of music. The deliberate composition that begins this track will have fans on the edges of their seats, making them eager to hear the narrative that Nassuet weaves through the composition.

The dynamic between the instrumental and the vocal elements during She Rides Moonlight pushes each into a higher plateau; the fluidity of this track makes for a much more compelling composition. The journey which Nic sends listeners is a fulfilling one; there are twists and turns taken here that will take a number of listens to fully appreciate. The ability to listen to She Rides Moonlight as an innocuous composition or as something deep and dense is up to the listeners and makes for a considerably different experience. It is precisely this quality that makes Nassuet such a compelling performer; the track’s mastering is sharp enough to make either decision a fulfilling one.

Perhaps the most impressive part of She Rides Moonlight has to be the vocal range expressed by Nic; from lows to highs, the Jim Morrison meets Geoff Tate aural finesse will stick with listeners long after the track ceases.

Singer-songwriter Nic Nassuet was practically raised on-stage; he has starred in challenging and pivotal roles in critically-acclaimed musicals like Sweeney Todd in “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street,” Terry Connor in “Side Show,” and the original rock-musical “Doomsday Cabaret.”

Nic Nassuet is a singer-songwriter who will remind of you of the eclectic spare acoustic folk sounds of Nick Drake, though Nassuet is apt to dust them with influences quite often in the form of violins and mandolins. Finally, Nassuet is a superb instrumentalist, who isn’t interested in virtuosity but in playing the most musically appropriate accompaniment for each song. Some artists are more focused on becoming the best instrumentalists or singers they can become, while others are more focused on becoming the best musicians they possibly can become. That important distinction applies here, in that Nic Nassuet seems far less concerned with what he does instrumentally than what he can do musically.

I rarely become so enamored with a musician’s style, vocal and instrumental, that I immediately find it necessary to search for all of the music they’ve created, but Nic Nassuet perfectly fits this rare category.

“Black Dress,” and “Immured”, has some sort of spark, a creative stamp that when you listen to it, you can tell something wonderful is happening in your presence. It’s like an experience unto its own. Nassuet has such an intriguing and novel slant on the whole acoustic scene which is hard to ignore or even attempt to resist.


There is a tendency in audiences to try to assimilate and compare something powerful and original to another – to grasp or hold onto the known. But with Nic Nassuet, this tendency won’t hold. Nassuet rewrites the singer-songwriter user’s manual like Ritchie Havens, Ryan Adams, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake and other legendary artists did before him.

On “Black Dress”, Nic Nassuet enters on a steady strum, slowly threading a compelling head swaying beat infused by vigor and powerful imagery, bringing back the raw essence of what music should be about -feelings and emotion. Channeling figureheads like Nick Drake and Jeff Buckley, Nassuet combines a wholly folky sound with vocals that sometimes ebb on stadium-rock worthy. On “Cross and Crown,” the album’s opener, he beckons the listener in with smooth, lulling melodies before unleashing his rockier side, but creates a super listenable barometer against which the rest of the album is measured. Simply put, each track builds on the one before it. Some artists don’t understand the importance of creating a cohesive effort within an album format; Nassuet does. Even on sweet, string-heavy “Immured,” he manages to incorporate a little driving rock into a track that might be best classified as chamber music. In fact, Eleutherious contains a few tunes that showcase Nassuet’s softer side, including “Goodnight, Goodbye,” and the mysterious “The Giver.”

For those just dipping their toes into this style of music, however, “When It Falls” might be the best introduction to Nassuet and possibly Gothic folk as a whole. Its pop underpinnings and repetitious chorus render it a complete earworm; it’s definitely the one you’ll be humming later. But I’d also be willing to wager that this album is one you’ll keep around for a long, long time; its evergreen melodies and deep-seated heart and soul make it a staple for anyone’s collection.

‘She Rides Moonlight’ is an interesting choice for a lead single – it’s not often these days that singles are six and a half minutes long. But it’s a song that is entrancing in its repetitiveness; Nassuet averts the risk of being boring and instead achieves a peacefully lulling effect.

Dark worlds, powerful lyrics and beautiful soundscapes characterise Nassuet's music, which has been called variously gothic folk, gothic rock and - my personal favourite - acoustic horror punk.

Nassuet channels decades as a performer into his music. Taking the lead role in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street no doubt stoked his penchant for the macabre, and this, along with various other starring roles in musical theatre, helped him to hone his performance skills and develop a rich vocal dexterity. On the flip side, acting as the frontman for numerous metal and punk bands in his murky past taught Nassuet the importance of rock ’n’ roll stage-craft, giving his particular brand of folk - for want of a better word - balls.

Nic Nassuet has big plans for the future. His multi-instrumental, genre-defying music has been played on terrestrial FM stations across the US and Canada, as well as on digital stations throughout the world. When Nic Nassuet sings “let me wither” on “The Nothing,” I believe him. The lush string arrangements emphasize the plea. His album “Eleutherios,” Greek for “free,” sounds like it was rescued from a medieval time capsule then reworked in a modern studio. There’s a delicateness that brings to mind troubadours from centuries ago, but the album is rooted in the kind of dark folk of Nick Cave’s recent albums. You can almost picture Nassuet sitting in a comfortable black velvet armchair, sipping on a strong scotch as he calmly watches the world end. This detachment provides a nice counterpoint for the grim themes, a terrifying lullaby that’s simultaneously soothing in its ability to make peace with the horror. The specific lyrics can veer towards the generic and stall the album from reaching its full potential, but there’s still a lot to appreciate. The melodic hook in the chorus of “When It Falls,” is particularly memorable as is the raw emotion that pulses through “Immured.” My favorite track is the final one, “She Rides Moonlight.” Nassuet’s high-pitched guitar on it is reminiscent of Led Zeppelin’s “Going to California.” It gives the song a melodic lightness that melds with his vocal refrains and gothic-tinged verses to create an irresistible blend of light and dark.

Creating a distinct atmosphere and focus is often the elusive hallmark of great albums. For many artists, this means painstakingly crafting new worlds while Nic Nassuet manages the same effect through efforts less looming and obvious. Instead it’s as if the entirety of his full length Eleutherios exists within a bleak December field blanketed in bitterly cold snow and blood spilled by fallen soldiers of a civil war. Nassuet’s gloomy gypsy goth style finds life not so much in this field but rather the traces of ghosts and residual events tied to it like realities superimposed on one another.


We can almost hear these overlapping realities twirling divinely in the ethereally misty backing vocals stirring the opening of “Cross and Crown” before acoustic guitar resonating with the crispness of autumn leaves finds itself swept aloft in currents of violin saturated with mythology, forging the perfect pedestal for Nassuet’s own domineering vocal confidence. When delving into black pools of charged emotion, his vocal control is such that passion relinquishes itself to it. Even when belting out the nuances of tragedies, the details that make aspects of the lyrics so real, his command never once falters.


“Down” is rusted, rustic blues, propelled by a gritty hooking beat with the violin shedding a dim warm light across the frigidness that permeates the music. The vocals exude a pre-war soul against a Civil War backdrop of raw nerve blues. The gentle pluck of the acoustic guitar skews eerily into haunting territory with “Immured”, a ghostly duet relying more on tragedy’s romance than its horror. Choruses swell with the torment of relentless visions spurned onward by maddening obsessions. The album finds possibly its most rock-oriented moment in “When It Falls”, a track that pairs the measured violence of guitar strumming against chittering percussion and bongo beats. Even this momentary rebelliousness is possessed with a vulnerable lament courtesy of the phantasmic layered vocals.


Even against the swells of violin, Nassuet’s voice sounds naked in its freezing isolation on “The Nothing.” Vocals with only their own echoes for company populate the cold expanses as if reaching from another dimension far from the simple, stripped acoustic strums and futile longing of violins. The lyrics burn bright like a cinder flaring up before succumbing to the soft, smothering death kiss of the falling snow. “The Giver” finds its power in an even deeper simplicity, infusing a resigned horror through taunting guitar, bittersweet nostalgic violin, and backing vocals that evoke the bizarrely angelic film scores of Danny Elfman. The eerily youthful teasing guitar becomes more playful on “Goodnight, Goodbye” yet still can’t restrain the maudlin and macabre essence that’s soaked into the very fibers of Eleutherios. These morose musings escape in certain hastily plucked notes of the guitar and we’re offered a glimpse of the romantic outsider looking in, snow-burned cheeks illuminated by the warmth of a fire hopelessly cut off by an icy pane of glass.

While “Black Dress” almost recounts an Ennio Morricone Western theme in its opening acoustic damaged ruggedness hanging on wild strings of violin, it soon falls into a determined rhythmic strum while the controlled vocals cry out the weakness of ensnared prey, detailing the bewitching glamour of a spellbinding silver screen siren. A sense of foreboding remains subtle yet conspicuous in certain ominous chords of the chorus. This sense of understated drama continues into the album’s first single, “She Rides Moonlight” which takes advantage of the cinematic sweetness prevalent on Eleutherios with its moon-kissed acoustic chords and a sense of tribute in its subtle orchestral elements.

Eleutherios is an epithet for Dionysus and Eros, gods representing intoxication and love respectively. Yet the album Eleutherios seems to draw its intoxication less out of a sense of revelry and more to dull the pain of love. Inevitably, every line shows such an intense appreciation for beauty that Nic Nassuet’s distinct blend of gypsy goth punk folk is more of an uplifting meditation than a grim affair.

I am mystified by the rejection of the wikipedia article about Glen Cove Christian Academy. The school did exist and to my knowledge it was the only evangelical Christian boarding school in southern Maine (perhaps all of Maine) in the 20th century. It grew from a small high school of perhaps 20 students in its first year to a high school of approximately 200 plus students and a Bible college of 100 plus students over a period of 20 years.

As for notability, academy alumni went on to graduate from a variety of prestigious universities. Bible college alumni went on to graduate schools or into ministry in dozens of states and foreign countries. The schools impacted the lives of thousands of students over the course of their 20 year existence. And those alumni are now impacting thousands more as they serve in education, commerce, government, medicine, law, and professional ministry.

The mystery escalates as I view other Wikipedia articles that have been accepted in comparison to the article that I authored. I have tried to add supporting citations but am hampered by the fact that the two major newspapers in the state of Maine are not indexed. I have spent several hours paging through microfilm but that is tedious work when there is no index available. Therefor I have relied on a few articles from the local Courier Gazette newspaper and a few references in books. As a graduate of both schools, I believe that I am adequately qualified to write this article and I live next door to the widow of the founder of the school. So with sincere respect I do not understand why my article is rejected when I look at other articles about schools that have perhaps one or two citations and have not come close to graduating the number of students that have graduated from GCCA and GCBC.

While I, respectfully, believe that this article should be accepted as is. I ask for some practical, specific, instructions on what more is required to make this article accepted.

I would like to add that I am a retired school library media specialist and before retiring I was a strong supporter of the value of Wikipedia as a beginning resource for my students. I still value Wikipedia but remain mystified by the rejection of this article.

Finally, I am not sure that I will even be able to convey these thoughts via Wikipedia's system of communication which I find to be not that user friendly.

Forgive my frustration, but this school and preserving its memory is very important to me and my fellow alumni. We feel that the history of these schools is not only important for alumni and our families, but that it is an important part of the history of education and religion in the state of Maine.

Hi Sister Twister! I have read already the tips you told me, but i'll do it again and again so I improve my cintributions to Wikipedia. Somewhere i read in the wizard, that one, when you are new, should write your article and then "someone else comes behind and improves it".....of course I would like to write it perfect from the beggining, but as you may know for your extensive experience, it requires sime time to be as perfect as one can be. I intend really to write lots of articles. I am a folkloric music researcher, german and ukrainian specially, and i have written some books. In my research I realized that for example about german songs, there us few in english and nothing in spanish, and i learned lots from the wikipedia and i have siki as the best encyclopedia ever. And about ukrainian songs....nothing in any language, even ukrainian wiki.

So i think i may be contribute with lots and lots of articles, all about folcloric.music, sometimes new and sometimes translations.

I speak ukrainian, german, english amd spanish (german and spanish as native).

I have read also that wikipedia is an encyclopedia that we all make....i write the idea, and you improve it and someone behind improves it further.....super!

I would be glad that you improve my article (and the spanish version), becausr i have seen your work and "it rocks!"

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time for your commentary and review. I understand that more sources would be beneficial, but the conundrum is that while the person I am making a wikipedia article for is actually the Godfather of all agriculture in Bangladesh, he was active during the 40s and 50s and a lot of their work is in print and not immediately linkable on the internet. I have been working with his PhD students who gave me his printed obituary as a basis for the article, and have substantiated his significance with links to prominent scientific societies related to his field.

I do feel I am in a bit of a "bring me a rock" situation, after the previous entry was rejected I was able to find more sources from the Bengal Botanical society and the Bangladesh Academy of Science but am rejected again.

I am tapped out of internet sources, but also feel that I have established notability. What do you recommend in order to get this published?

His PhD students asked me to do this in honor of their mentor and I don't know how to go back to them and say that the sources we've found just aren't enough.

I prefer not to edit that existing page because there is no officially recognized place or entity called the Santa Rita Experimental Range and Wildlife Area. That name appears on old topographic maps, but there is not administrative unit that is associated with that name.

Alternatively, the name Santa Rita Experimental Range that I described in the page I submitted is a real place and has a real administrative unit, and has been in operation under that name since 1902. Some of the details of that history are in the text I developed and in the references that I listed for that text.

So rather than have me merge into the existing page which has no reference to a place or administrative unit, is it possible to have those authors merge into the page that I created?

Malachq oh one note. The key word is notable. Doens't matter how notable. It has just to be. I remember reading a person who retired and wrote an long-rant why he was leaving Wikipedia for imdb.com. I went over to see his profile on there and it was pretty obvious. He had uploaded so much information on Japanese films that he was one of the top contributors. All on all sorts of Japanese films he could upload. Didn't matter what kind. Minor, even the ones that are rather... obscure. He was mad because Wikipedia wouldn't allow some low-level film produced by some no-name director that could not even reach a film screen. just a thought. any sort of Notability is what matters. CNCO page creation was a mistake!

Dear SwisterTwister - I just received a note earlier that you had reviewed a page I created - CNCO. I was confused, as I had only added some references to a draft page for the band at Draft:CNCO and offered my help to User:Borikén when they were ready to create the page. After you notified me that you reviewed the page, I realized that I had done a Redirect of CNCO in February to La Banda (TV series) after I added some images on Wikimedia Commons. Then it looks like another user added some information and my images.

When I got the notification - I didn't know what happened and tried to fix the page a little and notified the Draft page creator Boriken.

What do you think we should do - I wanted Boriken to create the page when they wanted to - and I'm not sure 2 singles is enough to merit a page yet, per notability for musicians - however popular they may soon be - due to their affliation with Ricky Martin.

Normally I appreciate your work patrolling new pages, but now I feel like I need to ask just how much attention you're paying to the article you review. Most significantly, I noticed that you didn't tag Non-Cooperation Movement of South Canara - 1836 as having any problems, even though it is unreferenced, uncategorized, lacks a lead, wasn't using proper section headers, and other issues. I also noticed you didn't tag a couple of school stubs. Are you just opening them, marking them as reviewed and closing them? Elizabeth Spencer

Hi, thanks for reviewing this draft article and commenting. I won't re-submit again. My view (I'm a health researcher publicationlist.org/ben.toth) is that Dr Spencer is not especially notable, though certainly more notable than me! I have no knowledge of her other than that her name appeared on a wikipedia list of women scientists who might benefit from an entry as a way of addressing gender imbalance in the coverage of scientists on Wikipedia. I made a brief entry which was declined. Someone added a few more references, presumably to address the issues, and I re-submitted, mainly because they had taken the time to do so.

I am grateful for the transparency in the review process. There was no mention of holding a professorship as a criteria for notability in there original review. I don't know where her PhD came from and as this seems irrelevant to notability I didn't address this (would she be more notable if her PhD came from Oxford rather than say Bristol, or MIT rather than San Diego? Answer is no) It now seems to me that there is an element of making up the criteria for inclusion of people in wikipedia as one goes along. As this was a subject intended to address potential bias in wikipedias coverage this has been an interesting and instructive episode.

I really thought that the twenty references adequately mentioned along the article demonstrate significant coverage and would point the notability of the subject clearly. i.e: capable of being noted or worthy of notice. As "Notability is not synonymous with fame or importance." according to Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies), so... if you suggest increase the number of references without any other explanation then your opinion seems biased, non-neutral. If you has pointed to an issue with the audience of the references, please note that the accepted criteria was overcomed.

As for the concerns that the article lacks in-depth sources, I would say this is misunderstanding: I have provided a number of academic reference. That these sources are mostly Chinese do not undermine their reliability and the lack of English resources is largely caused by this person's anonymity in English academic circle and therefore the extreme difficulty of obtaining English coverage on this person. People who are familiar with Late Qing history would probably know about this person and his importance in the early formation of Beiyang Army.

You declined my draft of the IBM System/360 Model 25 because you considered it "still needs any further available in-depth third-party news sources overall for solidity". I understand that you would like to see references other than IBM manuals listed. So would I, but I couldn't find any other public sources, reliable or not. There are articles about System/360, but not specifically about the Model 25. The problem resides in the word "available". A Google search does not show any other publications or articles about the System/360 Model 25, and even if it did, they wouldn't be as complete as the manuals. This is a computer that was withdrawn from market almost 40 years ago. It was used by small companies, that didn't have much space in the news. The only information one can find today comes from IBM publications and archives, and from other antique computer manual databases. The references I used in the article are technical manuals that describe in detail the system characteristics. Now let me tell you why I decided to write an article about this somewhat obscure machine. In the 60s, I was an IBM customer engineer (the IBM term for a maintenance technician), and I was trained in the Model 25. In time, I was promoted to country specialist for this computer, which meant I was the one called when the field technicians couldn't solve a problem. When I realized that the Wikipedia didn't have an article about the Model 25, I decided to write one because I don't think there are many people alive with the same knowledge I have about this machine, and I didn't want it to be completely forgotten. I believe this is the purpose of the Wikipedia: to be a repository for the combined knowledge of its contributors.

I think they do: if you are able to articulate why you disagree I might be able to address your concerns.
