I just found your message[1] about the article Maggie & Sam last night and have (I hope) fixed the issue.  :) Cheers! —This lousy T-shirt— (talk) 13:35, 30 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much! You are an extremely kind person and I can see that you worked a lot on such a detail. Unfortunately I still see the blue dots on Maggie, but that could well be an issue regarding my browser. Please do not spend more time on that. KAIST name

[edit]

Hello WSIHUN?

We saw your edit on KAIST. Don't worry, that is a common mistake, perhaps the most common on the KAIST Wiki entry. Until 2008, the institute used the written out name and its acronym. But, then the universiy urged the government to change the name because KAIST was no longer about Korea, and the institution was no longer about just science and technology (expanded into communication, business, economics, and public policy). So, the acronym became the name. It is not like Massachusetts Institute of Technology and MIT. In this case, it is just KAIST, reflecting a change of focus. KAIST now uses logographics with that spelled out name removed. Someone should go onto that site and update the image on the wiki. Snowfalcon cu (talk) 19:45, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Viziers

[edit]

Hello! To keep this from becoming a tug-of-war, if you have such evidence of usage, please share it at the talk page of the article, because it certainly contradicts anything I've seen in the relevant literature I have so far read. Constantine 10:04, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Without having seen this message of yours, I already shared the Google books searches (which you could have done by yourself instead of reverting my move) in the talk page of the article. There I also made a comment about literature, without knowing what you were saying to me here. Please do not take that as a criticism. In many Balkan countries children were raised in a certain manner. See the change of approach against the Turks as far away as in Hungary. (Now they noticed -suddenly, at the wake of communism- that they could build a cathedral in their capital only under Ottoman "occupation". :-) Regards. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 10:24, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Yes, I come from a Balkan country and "was raised in a certain manner", but that does not justify you making assumptions based on that. If you have a look at my edit history, I am rather well versed with Ottoman history, including the administrative system. To the question at hand, I get your point, but it rather contradicts usage in almost all English sources that deal with the subject. More importantly, while you can call a sadrazam "prime minister" in the post-Tanzimat and post-1908 westernized Ottoman government, you certainly cannot do the same for all holders of the office before that. In the "classical" period, as you write, it was an analogue to the modern "prime Minister", but not the same. Let us remember that the definition of the "prime minister" as the head of a cabinet is a relatively very recent phenomenon, even in the country that pioneered it, Britain. Constantine 10:51, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"Certain manner" refers to education, at home, school and maybe even sports clubs. Looks like you received that education in English, as you must have grown up with that concept. For me, Viziers were only in fairy tales... --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 12:02, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I really fail to see what the manner or language I grew up with has to do with established usage in English-language literature of a technical term about a historical office. Or are you suggesting that we should rename Abbasid viziers into Abbasid prime ministers because there is a vizier in Aladdin and it smacks of "fairy tales"? Then you should also rename kings and sultans into "heads of state", castles into "fortified areas", the defterdars into "finance ministers", etc. Such retroactive modernization is plainly ridiculous, even harmful: if orientalism, which you decry, is about applying Western misconceptions onto actual societies, thereby distorting their actual image into a more "picturesque" one, what you are suggesting is the reverse, namely abolishing the distinctive features of these societies, as expressed by certain titles that are unique to them due to their unique historical/political/societal evolution and make-up, with "neutral", "modern", but utterly alien terms that do not suit the historical reality either. Andrea Congreaves

[edit]

Hey, WSIHAUN. Nice work on digging through the Italian Wikipedia. Could I convince you to come with a list of the European teams (and seasons) for which Congreaves played from 2000 (when she left the United States) until 2007 (when she retired as a player)? I'm running out of steam . . . . It's apparent that she had a pretty significant European career for six or seven years, but I am completely unfamiliar with the European women's basketball leagues and teams. If you can pull together a rough list of teams and tenures with a source for each, I will clean up the text and footnote formatting . . . . Cheers. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:25, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, that's a bit too much for me. I intervened at the AfD because I remembered her name and face, and knew she was an international player. I don't know where the Italian WP got the information that I used, but a net search did not take me much more forward than this, which must also have based its data on the Italian WP. Thanks for your contributions to this article and regards. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 22:59, 5 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nactor

[edit]

You left the following message: "You seem to have experience in AfDs about actors. Do you think that this actress is notable? In my opinion not, but I do not like to be criticized there, either." I think that you are correct. WP:NACTOR states that, to be notable, an actor:

  1. . Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions.
  2. . Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following.
  3. . Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment.

The article does not suggest that any of the above applies to Sara Powell. You will be criticized for some actors' AfDs regardless because their fans, publicists, mothers, whomever will believe that you are evil for not recognizing the person's innate greatness. As long as you proceed in good faith and do not personally attack the subject or Wikipedians, you should be fine. Good luck and be bold.--Rpclod (talk) 20:11, 19 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea how that "I" works in Turkish. If that's the right place where you moved it, I think the talk page needs to be moved as well? I also noted that someone created a redirect from Worst movie death scene ever to it at some point, lol.--Milowenthasspoken 21:27, 23 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Baklava Page Dispute

[edit]

There is a lively dispute (including yourself) on the Baklava Talk page. Please leave the dispute indicator label, "The neutrality of this article is disputed. Relevant discussion may be found on the talk page. Please do not remove this message until the dispute is resolved" on the disputed section of the baklava article, so that we can recruit other editors to help establish an evenhanded resolution to this potentially biased article. Clap, clap, clap. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 18:51, 26 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I think this quote and source, supporting the Turkic hypothesis and mentioned on the baklava Talk page just now, should be added to both the baklava and filo Turkic sections, but I won't do it myself, because I don't want to alter those sections, myself, since you seem to be a guardian for them. Anyway, it is a quite interesting quote I think, particularly the "thinner than wafer" and "fold them up as grocers to their papers for spices." --- Bertrandon de la Broquière, we find that Bertrandon mentions "cakes... a foot broad, round, and thinner than wafers: they fold them up as grocers to their papers for spices, and eat them filled with the curdled milk [sc. yogurt]" Piledhighandeep (talk) 06:07, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I know what "dürüm" is. And the filling must be "çökelek". Good-bye. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 06:31, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are still continuing to remove the POV tag from the baklava history section, despite a multi-party ongoing Talk discussion (in which I have not been the only user advocating change to the section), and then after removing the POV dispute tag, you are continuing to dispute the article directly by changing it to suit your position. You have removed the tag more than once from filo and baklava. Please air your position on Talk that is what the POV tag is for. Piledhighandeep (talk) 19:07, 30 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Baklava edit

[edit]

Thank you for your kind words about my editing.

I removed the following text:

"The Oxford Companion to Food" states that filo pastry is a Turkish invention, although the word has entered Western vocabulary through the Greek language.[1]
  1. ^ http://books.google.com.tr/books?id=RL6LAwAAQBAJ&pg=PA307&dq=baklava+Turkish+origin&hl=tr&sa=X&ei=M-3UU5_rDsiM4gSK7oDwCQ&ved=0CDAQ6AEwAw#v=onepage&q=baklava%20Turkish%20origin&f=false
  2. for several reasons:

As I said in the edit summary, it is redundant, as the history is already described in detail in the "History" section -- the history of filo/yufka and of baklava are intertwined.

Talking about the origin of the word 'filo' in English in the 'baklava' article doesn't make much sense, especially not in the "preparation" section.

Writing things like "Source X says Y" is not ideal; it is better to say "Y <footnote X>" unless there is a debate that is being reported on -- as there is in the History section.

Combining the origin of the word 'filo' in English with the history of the pastry is conflating two quite separate issues, each of which is amply covered in its own section. --Macrakis (talk) 18:59, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Islam and whatnot

    [edit]

Greetings friend. Thanks for raising the POV issue on Islamic terrorism; the page had accidentally got on my watchlist, I had never read it, but I did after your edits, and I was just as horrified as you were. This is not my core area of interest, but if you make any major effort to clean this mess up, I'll be watching with interest, and I'll try to lend a hand, too.

That said, are you sure that your current merger request is the way to go? Even to me, those seem like topics that would be distinct even when written in an NPOV fashion; so the merger discussion will result in a "keep both," IMO. Rather than spend time there, you may want to deal with the articles themselves. Also, you may be interested in this, which (like many other pages) is a fully legitimate topic which requires a solid article, that has instead been infected with American and Israeli POV. Removal of sentence in ISIS

    [edit]

The normal way to deal with this on this page is to add a {{citation needed}} tag and add a note about it on the Talk page – and that way you would have saved the 1RR! That para has been there for a long time, and I'm surprised it hasn't been tagged before! --P123ct1 (talk) 08:14, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Which one? I just removed one that I saw added today. I am keen not to make any violations of 1RR or anything else related to edit wars. I wish to contribute to WP in peace. Thanks. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 08:18, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You are at 3RR on a 1RR page. Two of your reverts count as one as they were sequential, but I count [2] [3] and [4]. In other words, you could be blocked. You are obviously aware of the 1RR restriction so I won't add a sanction notice. I hope you've read the notice at the top of the page anyway.
You aren't the only editor who has done this of course, but sooner or later someone is going to be blocked, this can't be allowed to continue. Don't let it be you. Note that I'm an involved editor so wouldn't block myself, but at some point I might go to WP:AE if this goes on. Dougweller (talk) 08:24, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly I did not notice I was doing anything like that. I will check the diffs you provided but let me tell you beforehand that I am sorry if I did anything like that. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 08:27, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Now that I checked them, I see only "edits". Are they considered "reverts"? Why? Whom did I revert? I am still rather unexperienced here, is a "revert" and an "edit" the same thing? This is why yesterday I asked you help in this area, 'cause I know it is a very mined one. Do you mind helping me? Begin by teaching me what this 1RR really is... Thanks. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 08:32, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
A revert is removing text added by another editor. Your removed Arabic language, traffic rules and currency (counts as one edit as no one edited in between) and some OR and "Rm unnecessary Link Farm per WP:OR and WP:BRD. Many other elements in the last addition by the same editor are doubtful but I do not want to make a total revert" - again counts as one. The issue isn't whether or not they were reasonable things to do but the number of reverts. In any other article you could have been given a WP:3RR warning, but this is a 1RR article. Dougweller (talk) 08:38, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry again. I will not repeat what I did without being duly informed. Dougweller, you are an admin. I "urge" you to guide me in these things. I am sure there is a blue link something (there is for almost every thing here) somewhere that says administrators should help and teach the unexperienced users. Do not escape that responsibility. (BTW is there a blue link on this really? Just curiosity. :-) --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 08:44, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with you, it is sometimes hard to tell when an edit is a revert and when it is not; I had that difficulty when I first started this year. I copy-edit, so technically, I suppose, any alteration to wording to make it read better is a revert! I presume you are talking about the statement that ISIS is resented because it considers itself a state, etc. I did tweak the wording a bit the other day to make it read better, so I don't know if that made it look like a new edit. As I said, it has been there for ages. There's a lot to learn in Wikipedia editing, and it does take some time to digest, but don't worry, you will soon pick it up! --P123ct1 (talk) 10:25, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Aylin Tezel

    [edit]

Thanks for your input on Aylin Tezel.

I added the pronunciation, (eye-LEEN TET-sel) based on how Germans say the name in interviews and such, without any correction by Aylin. I read in a German magazine that she once said that her last name, Tezel, was pronounced like Gemetzel. That word would sound to an American like ga-MET-sel. Turks might say the name differently, but Aylin was born in Germany and does not speak Turkish. I have never heard her say her own name herself, but I imagine she would use a pronunciation like eye-LEEN TET-sel. Tupelo the typo fixer (talk) 16:46, 18 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    [edit]

I don't mind your revert, but what will happen when the section fills up with criticisms from various places? Should they all be mixed in together? I thought keeping the criticisms separate would be logical and quite useful for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Any other ideas on how to handle the information in this section would be welcome. Please do add any you have to the new Talk page section just opened, as this is just draft ideas at this stage. Regards, P123ct1 (talk) 11:32, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Comment on Sivriada edit

    [edit]

Hello there, I saw your edit comment to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=International_Antalya_Golden_Orange_Film_Festival&oldid=628485783#Censorship_in_2014 but couldn't understand what you meant. Please don't hesitate to let me know if you saw an aspect that can be improved in the relevant section of Sivriada. Thanks. Mehmetaergun (talk) 15:09, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Beauty pageants

    [edit]

Because I'm very much a chronic self-justifier - my comments were more a result of my having been involved in quite a lot of beauty pageant AFDs recently. I wanted to make it clear that despite voting delete, I thought the alternative pageants/winners should be just as notable as their non-alternative equivalents. I've also voted Keep on other beauty pageant related AFDs despite feeling that the subjects aren't really deserving, because there is a precedent for the national title holder and representative of her (it's always her, never Mr. World or Mr. Universe) country having a basic article in line with sportspeople, etc., whilst xpressing sympathy with the point of view of the nominator. So yeah, while I don't like beauty pageants I still try to at least give their claims to notability and representation proper consideration. Probably more than you ever wanted to know! AfD comment clarification requested

    [edit]

At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Campus Apartments, you stated to delete per Carrite - however, carrite wants the article kept. Please head over to the deletion discussion and clarify. Thanks, Oiyarbepsy (talk) 22:12, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I did already. The ref that the said user refers to shows that this article is promotional. Bye. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 22:14, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I wonder how the discussion was no consensus. Supersaiyen312 (talk) 23:53, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Maintenance tag

    [edit]

Hi. Tx for your work on the article, and I do agree that it is moving in the right direction. I've restored maintenance tags, as until they're addressed the approach is to leave them. Hopefully it will lead to them being addressed more quickly. Best. --Epeefleche (talk) 16:42, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article has some problems. I added talk header and projects. I suspect it will be nom'ed for Afd. Also, Abdülmecid II has a good looking daughter. Thanks for your contribution. ;-) ~Technophant (talk) 17:38, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your comment. My suggestion is that if any further such remarks are made, you just reply very briefly if at all--unless it actually becomes an issue at ANI or somewhere where a full reply is needed. This is a geographic area that very easily escalates, and anyone working with articles having any connection needs to be very calm about it. Try to stay way clear of the often irrational process at Arb Enforcement. DGG ( talk ) 18:53, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't recall coming across that particular article before, but I saw it while working on a Quality improvement project on another related article and found the history. — Cirt (talk) 11:57, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You've hidden his name with this edit. You need to place it outside the flag icon. 213.7.147.34 (talk) 14:14, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I did not intend to do anything like that. Please repair it yourself as I don't have much experience on these things. Thank you. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 14:18, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I wasn't implying that you did it on purpose. I just thought I'd tell you so that you'll know how the template works if you're even gonna use it again. 213.7.147.34 (talk) 14:21, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    1) since when I began editing Iran articles, "rural district" was used in the existing ones, I decided to go with the flow, as most English-language readers wouldn't know the term "dehestan". Similarly, the word "district" was used for "bakhsh", the word "county" was used for "shahrestan", and province for "ostan". The last one is probably the most common English-language rendering of "ostan". The others' usage is mixed. Some folks insist that "shahrestan" is better rendered "township" ("shahr" means "city", hence shahrestan is the land under a city's jurisdiction...), however, in most English-languages, township is akin to a municipality and is well below the status of a second-level of a four-level jurisdictional schema. As to whether to use "dehestan" rather than "rural district", I'm ambivalent, but I tend not to mess with a structure that was well underway when I arrived. 2) No, I'm from the USA. Talk:Socialism

    [edit]

Hi: The history of Talk:Socialism shows that I added a couple of lines and also deleted most of somebody else's entry, which you understandably reverted. The entry that I apparently deleted was not visible to me when I added my little contribution, and I did not get a warning of an edit conflict, so it appears that something weird happened: first time in the year since I began editing with WP. I certainly did not intend to delete anything, and if I knew what I did to create this problem, I'd avoid it in future. The only clue I have is that it's one of the few edits I've done on an iPad, which has a somewhat deficient WP interface. If I accidentally did something stupid, apologies. Why? Who am I to receive apologies for such a thing? Enjoy life. Cheers. --Why should I have a User Name? (talk) 23:52, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
