Did you know that Michelin was a pioneer of road navigation? After actively campaigning for roads to be numbered in 1912, André Michelin wanted to go even further to improve road navigation. At the end of World War I, he started to produce distance markers and signs. His goal was to introduce simple, effective, and lasting signage to make life easier for motorists. A major step forward for mobility development. A century later, we continue to innovate every day to offer motorists unique travel experiences. Our brand-new ViaMichelin website and mobile application invite motorists to totally rethink their travel planning, focusing on authentic and memorable experiences along the way to their destination, collecting all points of interest, restaurants, hotels and tourist sites from MICHELIN guide selections in one place. Since the first road signs, Michelin never stopped innovating and keeps on imagining new ways of traveling! Discover the new Via Michelin: https://lnkd.in/ea69u-n3

The year is 1895.  André and Édouard Michelin became interested in the automotive industry, which they expected to grow quickly. They mounted the first car tires they designed on a vehicle called "L’Éclair" (The Lightning), which participated in the Paris-Bordeaux-Paris race. The vehicle may not have won that race, but L’Éclair went down in history as the first car to run on air! This feat allowed the Michelin brothers to showcase the benefits of tires to the world, particularly their reliability, resistance, safety, and comfort. Nearly 130 years later, our state-of-the-art racing tires are still fitted to the cars competing in the most prestigious endurance races. With always the same motto in mind: performances are made to last!  Learn more about our long-lasting performance approach: https://lnkd.in/g7qKsXq4

What does Michelin’s name stand for? That's the question we sought to answer when we embarked on creating our new corporate film. The objective was to convey what sets Michelin apart as a company, by highlighting our distinctive know-how and their vast potential of applications, while emphasizing our societal contributions and unwavering beliefs. With its powerful narrative and striking visual treatment, the film has already earned several awards. This ambitious project was carried out in collaboration with Tulipes audiovisual agency and Studio Explore, a leading French CGI agency, whose images perfectly reflected our R&D's cutting-edge expertise in composites. The sound engineers at IRCAM Amplify in Paris also played a key role in enhancing the sensory impact of the material flows and bringing matter to life throughout the film. These collaborations and work really reflect Michelin's scientific and technological prowess, as well as the company's deep-rooted convictions. Those 5 minutes are 1,8 Tb of 3D images, that required 21,000 hours of rendering. On a regular laptop running 8 hours a day, it would have taken 3,500 days to compute... That's almost 10 years! We're nerds, we know... Enjoy the film!

He's 125, but still looks as young as ever.    Today, we want to share an inspiring story that combines creativity, branding, and a touch of whim: the story of our Michelin Man, also known as "Bibendum."    Back in 1894, Édouard and André Michelin were looking for a way to stand out in the burgeoning tire industry. During a visit to the Lyon Universal Exhibition, they saw a stack of tires and remarked that it looked like a man without arms. This sparked an idea that would eventually become one of the most enduring and recognizable brand mascots in history.    Our Michelin Man, affectionately known as "Bib" in France, quickly became more than just a mascot. Over the decades, he has evolved in appearance, reflecting changes in civil society. From a somewhat rotund figure composed of bicycle tires to the more streamlined version we see today, Bib has remained a symbol of reliability, innovation, and excellence. And one that has kept up with the times. Did you know that he was now the face of an NFT collection? He has even been voted icon of the millennium by Advertising Week in New York in 2018, and best logo in the world by the Financial Times in 2000.    Empathetic, enthusiastic, mischievous but above all always ready to help, the Michelin Man is not about to retire!

For the first time, our new tire made from 71% renewable and recycled materials hit the track at our test center in France, fitted on the Porsche GT4 e-Performance.  This is no small feat. Because, as essential as the ambition to make tires more sustainable may be, they still have to perform. So we tested these tires, and not just on any car. The Porsche AG GT4 e-Performance is the vision of an all-electric racing car, delivering up to 800 kW...  Another proof that sustainability and high-performance can in fact go hand-in-hand. For the first time, Michelin is running its lunar tires on volcanic soil in France.   Three months after announcing that Michelin and its partners were selected by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration for phase 1 of the ARTEMIS project, these tests allow us to observe how these revolutionary tires behave on a surface with similar characteristics to lunar soil. We are also testing the ability of these tires to operate at temperatures above 100°C and below -240°C, withstand exposure to solar and galactic radiation and preserve the rover battery autonomy. These extremely demanding tests would not be possible without Michelin's expertise in composite materials and airless technologies.   Michelin, on the road and beyond.   Learn more ➡ https://lnkd.in/etwDb9Eq

As soon as a tire rolls, it starts wearing out, significantly impacting its performance. And yet, tires are only tested when they're new, before going on sale.  As a recognized leader in tire longevity, we welcome the new European regulations on the performance of new car tires once worn. This new European provision includes a statutory wet braking test, encouraging motorists to rely on trusted tires, right down to the legal tread depth of 1.6 mm. Confident that they can rely on their tires over the long term, European motorists will be able to keep their tires longer, preserving their purchasing power. Consumers could save almost 7 billion euros a year! A helping hand for the wallet, but also for the planet. Application of this regulation will have an impact on demand for new tires in Europe, which could be reduced by 128 million units annually, leading to a reduction in CO2 emissions of around 6.6 million metrics tons.
