Frequently asked questions

Pre-screening questions are a set of questions you can add to the application form of a job opening. When an applicant fills out their application, they will be asked to answer these questions.

Screening questions can be used to gather some basic information about applicants, such as their expected salary range, their qualifications, or if they have experience using a certain tool.

With JOIN, you can also add knockout screening questions. These questions ask about certain non-negotiable conditions that, if not met, will automatically disqualify the applicant. A (customisable) automated rejection email will be sent to the disqualified applicant.

An example of a knockout question is whether someone has the right to work in the country your office is located. If you have a lot of applications coming from people that are lacking a work permit, you could make this a knockout question to automatically reject those candidates.

To help you pick questions more easily, we’ve added a bunch of common screening questions that you can choose from.

However, you can always edit and customise your screening questions to fit the role you’re hiring for and your specific needs. After all, we understand that you might want to ask your own questions.

Plus, you can also choose your preferred answer type. Because you might have different question types, which require different answer types. For example, some require a simple Yes/No, while others might require a date.

For each question, you can choose from the following answer types:

  • Short text
  • Yes / No
  • Single choice
  • Multiple choice
  • Date
  • Number
  • File upload

In JOIN, you have full flexibility when it comes to the screening questions you ask and whether an applicant has to answer them.

For each question, you can select one of three options:

  1. Optional: Applicant is allowed to skip the question
  2. Required: Applicant has to answer the question
  3. Knockout: Applicant will automatically receive rejection email if they do not meet your requirements for that question
