Celebrating 5 years of empowering every child to reach their full potential.

Über uns

TFK seeks to build a leadership force for the country that will catalyze systemic change in their communities to ensure that every Kenyan child unlocks their potential and is equipped to design a successful future for themselves. We aim to do this by recruiting talented young Kenyan leaders into a two-year teaching fellowship. The fellowship aims to place these high-potential leaders in teaching positions in high-need schools across the country, providing children with high-quality education and inspirational role models. Upon completion of the fellowship, these young leaders will be supported to take up leadership roles across society that will collectively contribute to the systemic change needed across Kenya to transform our schools, schooling systems, and the broader ecosystem of social and economic opportunity.

    |Fellow at Mastercard Foundation Edtech Fellowship |Founder Benki ya Maarifa|

🌟 Celebrating a Milestone at Mukuru Community Center! 🌟 On August 4, 2024, we marked a significant achievement at Mukuru Community Center with the official handover of new library books, made possible by the incredible support of Safaricom Foundation's Ndoto Zetu Initiative. We were honored to have Peris Wanjiru Njambi, Territory Development Representative from Safaricom Foundation, as the Chief Guest, as we celebrated the growth of our Benki ya Maarifa Library. As a Cohort 3 Fellow Teach For Kenya, my journey at Mukuru Community Center has been transformative. When I first joined the community as a fellow teacher, I noticed challenges in literacy and numeracy skills, along with a lack of a strong reading culture. In response, we established Benki ya Maarifa, a school library that has now grown to house over 4,000 books. Thanks to Safaricom Foundation’s generous support, we are taking another big step towards bridging educational inequality. The new books will help us in our mission to not only improve literacy but also enhance digital skills for our students. I am currently working as a Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellow, helping support EdTech startups in Kenya, my work involves  creating and improving EdTech solutions that are affordable and accessible to learners in low-income areas like Mukuru. My goal is to incorporate digital devices into the Benki ya Maarifa Library, giving learners hands-on experience with these innovative tools, ultimately bridging the digital divide and enhancing their learning experience. This fellowship’s Programs have deeply impacted my career and life goals, and I’ll continue to champion quality education. To fellow graduates, I highly recommend looking into the Fellowship programs—it's a transformative experience that shapes changemakers. #EducationForAll #NdotoZetu #BenkiYaMaarifa #TeachForKenya #EdTech #LifelongLearner #Changemaker #SafaricomFoundation #MastercardFoundation

Teacher Leader.. community change agent.. Menstrual Health Champion. Pad Project Ambassador 🇰🇪

I'm excited to share that i completed the Teach For All #Global Girls Education #Fellowship as part of the 2nd cohort, which concluded on August 28, 2024. This fellowship has been an eye-opening experience, deepening my understanding of the diverse and complex challenges girls face in accessing quality education.Throughout the program, we explored critical areas such as understanding intersectionality and how the various aspects of a girl's identity—like gender, socioeconomic background, and cultural context—intersect to influence her educational journey. We also discussed practical strategies for educators to better support girls in schools, especially in environments where resources are limited and challenges are numerous. Looking ahead, I’m inspired to apply these insights and continue advocating for more inclusive and supportive educational practices as well as collaborating with fellow educators and advocates to ensure that every girl has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you to Wan Farihah Ahmad Fahmy 🇵🇸 for this incredible opportunity and to my fellow cohort members for their shared passion and commitment. The journey doesn’t end here—it’s just the beginning! #GirlsEducation #Intersectionality #EducationForAll #TeachForAll #TeachForKenya #InclusiveEducation

Yesterday, we had the opportunity to officially launch the Environmental Club at Mary Royal School under Teach For Kenya's Climate Education and Leadership program. 🌍🌿 It was a truly inspiring event, with Climate Action Ambassadors delivering impactful messages on the importance of climate action and leadership. What made the day even more special was the presence of the members of the community, who joined us in this meaningful initiative. Their support and engagement show the collective responsibility we all share in nurturing future climate leaders. Thank you Maxie Daniel , Eila Oketch, Albert Kiptoo and to everyone involved for making this launch a success. The journey toward environmental stewardship and youth leadership has just begun.... #ClimateAction #EnvironmentalEducation #Leadership #TeachForKenya #Sustainability #YouthEmpowerment #ClimateLeadership #CommunityInvolvement Youth For Children

Amidst the aftermath of the recent destructive floods that disrupted livelihoods in Kisumu Machakos and Nairobi, we have been continuously supporting affected families. As part of a series of relief dispatches, we have provided care packages to the most impacted households in Kisumu, Nairobi, and Machakos. This ongoing initiative underscores our commitment to offering assistance and helping communities recover from these challenging times. #TeachforKenya

I had an exciting session with my learners as part of our Code Club journey, diving into the world of programming through the Scratch application. It was incredible to see their creativity and problem-solving skills come to life. Grateful to be part of nurturing the next generation of tech innovators. Special thanks to STEAMLabs Africa, RoseberryPi LLC and Teach For Kenya the continued support in making these learning experiences engaging and impactful.

🌍 Grateful and Excited to Share a New Milestone! 🌍 I’m honored to have received my Certificate of Participation from the #ClimateEducatioLeadership virtual training, held on August 20th, 2024, by Teach For Kenya in collaboration with Mtoto News. As a #meteorologist, I found this training incredibly valuable. We explored critical topics like #greenhousegases, the causes of #climatechange, mitigation measures, and how to seamlessly integrate climate education into our schools. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained have further equipped me to be a more effective Climate Change Innovator, Climate Action Champion, and Climate Education Ambassador. I’m deeply thankful for this opportunity and excited to apply what I’ve learned to drive positive change in our schools, communities, and beyond. Together, we can make a difference! #ClimateAction #Sustainability #ClimateEducation #Leadership #sdg13

We have fun, but we take our work seriously. This is why we had a Personal Branding training last week conducted by Chris Mureithi. It helped us acknowledge our skills and how we can channel them where they bring the most value to the communities that we serve. We’re happy to use the new skills we’ve learned for the cause we're dedicated to – empowering every Kenyan child to reach their full potential.  #TeachForKenya #PersonalBrandTraining

Walking into the weekend with bright smiles and grateful hearts 😊 We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve signed an MOU with the County Government of Nairobi to keep working together to advance quality education in low-income neighborhoods in the county. The MOU was signed earlier today in an event graced by Yukabeth Kidenda (our CEO), Kefa Omanga (Director, Donor Coordination at Nairobi County), and Racheal Mwangi (our Head of Training, Leadership, & Development). We aim to place more Fellows in ECDE centers in Nairobi so that every child can access quality education regardless of their socioeconomic background.  #teachforkenya #nairobicitycounty #partnerships
