Bridgerton’s casting director has revealed she’s been inundated with ‘unsolicited’ audition tapes that are ‘basically sex’.
The hit Netflix period drama has become known for saucy scenes, with season 3’s carriage scene between Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) sending many viewers into a frenzy.
The series has also made stars out of its leads, which have included Rege-Jean Page, Phoebe Dynevor, Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley in previous seasons.
However, in a bid to get noticed, and cast, for upcoming seasons, wannabe stars are taking their audition tapes one step further.
Casting director Kelly Valentine Henry has now revealed she’s received an influx of X-rated videos.
‘It’s every day … I get the most unbelievable videos, unsolicited,’ she explained.
‘It’s sex basically, it’s not actual sex but it’s quite punchy.
‘It’s not nudey pictures, but not far off,’ she added when appearing on the Should I Delete That podcast.
Henry, who has worked on the series since it launched in 2020, said her inbox was consistently overflowing with hopefuls desperate to secure work on the hugely popular show.
She is currently in the process of casting Season 4, which is set to focus on the role of Sophie Beckett, who captures the attention of Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson if the series continues to follow the order of Julia Quinn’s novel series.
As they continue their search, Henry noted strong interest in the coveted role, with one applicant standing out by sending a massive, heavy-duty plastic banner of herself in a Regency-style costume.
‘It’s a bit sad, really, I don’t understand,’ she said.
However, Bridgerton fans do face a long wait for season 4, with showrunner Jess Brownell recently telling The Hollywood Reporter it could be two years before it hits screens.
‘We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,’ she said.
‘And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.’
