This (Australian) morning, we had the privilege of digitally participating in a breakfast session at the Embassy and Consulate-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Australia, focused on Waste and Circularity. Reflecting on 400 years of Dutch-Australian history, it’s clear that while we have a rich past, there’s an even brighter circular future ahead of us. Adopting circular economy principles is crucial not only for achieving climate targets but also for meeting broader environmental goals and ensuring our resource consumption is sustainable. Both Australia and the Netherlands have much to gain by learning from each other and collaborating on these vital issues. We particularly enjoyed sharing the story of the Excess Materials Exchange and our partnership with ASPIRE (Cameron McKenzie). Our plans for working closely together are already in motion, aiming to benefit not just Australia, but the rest of the world as well. We believe our collaboration can be a model for others to follow, showcasing the power of international cooperation in driving sustainability. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Her Excellency, Ambassador Ardi Stoios-Braken, and to Maayke Cramers Cramer for inviting us and organising this high-profile event. We highlighted the importance of initiatives like Europe’s Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, which offer valuable lessons for Australia. Circular procurement has been a major push in Europe, and similar efforts could significantly advance Australia’s sustainability agenda. As a follow-up, we warmly invite Australian sustainability and environmental agencies to work with us. We’re here to help, and we’re passionate about Australia. Thrilled to share an inspiring experience at the Symposium on Accelerating Science, Technology, and Circular Innovation in Southeast Asia, held in Vientiane, Laos.♻🇱🇦 The momentum for circular economy practices in the ASEAN region is undeniable, and the potential for transformative change is immense. I had the privilege of presenting the story of Excess Materials Exchange to a dynamic audience from ASEAN countries and co-hosted a workshop with Liang Zheng Gooi from Malaysia to assess the region’s progress in circular economy transitions. Here’s what stood out to me: 🎓 The expertise on circular economy principles within the built environment in ASEAN is truly impressive—on par with Europe. 🏗 With the rapid construction and urban development underway, the region is ripe for the adoption of circular economy practices. 🚀 ASEAN countries have a unique opportunity to leapfrog over the incremental phases that Europe has experienced in their circular economy journey. 💻 Many ASEAN nations are particularly well-positioned to adopt digital solutions, accelerating their transitions. 🏫 Strong partnerships with universities and knowledge institutes will be key to ensuring a just and swift adoption of circular economy principles. If you’re based in ASEAN or have a keen interest in the region, now is the time to act! Let’s work together to support and accelerate the adoption of circular economy practices across industries through our platform. On our Carpenters Estate regeneration we’re sustainably reusing what would be otherwise waste timber on our Meanwhile projects. But we’ve more Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) panels than we can use – so if you’re working on a project grab some for free on the Excess Materials Exchange (EME) app. As the panels have been stored outside the condition varies, and you’ll need to do your own due diligence for their application. But re-use ensures the panels aren’t wasted, and will save the right project money. Ideal for city farms, community gardens and a host of other applications.
