We’re bringing our next generation user experience to millions of Volvo cars worldwide.    With our new user experience in our all-electric EX90 and EX30 cars, we aimed to create a system that helps you go about your daily life with your car in a safe, focused and enjoyable way.    This user experience is now being incorporated into our new XC90 flagship SUV, too. But since it’s been designed from the outset to adapt and scale to fit different screen shapes and sizes, you don’t need to buy a new car to get it.     We will also deliver it to millions of customers who drive a Volvo car with Google built-in around the world - at no charge. During 2025, around 2.5 million customers around the globe will receive an upgrade on their Volvo cars built as early as 2020, with a simple over-the-air software update.    Our strategy is to make our cars better over time with regular over-the-air software updates. We can’t wait to make good on this strategy by bringing next generation technology to our existing customers.

When you see it on the road, its presence is unmistakable – the XC90 is a true Volvo Cars icon. Last week we presented the new and improved XC90 SUV in our hometown of Gothenburg. Thanks to a broad suite of technology and design updates inside and out, our award-winning and best-selling hybrid SUV is now better than ever before. Our premium seven-seater has ‘comfortable’ as its middle name, and it’s also one of the safest cars on the road.  In plug-in hybrid form, it’s an outstanding electric car with a back-up plan. For longer trips, the electric powertrain is paired with an efficient petrol engine to extend the hybrid range.  The new, more contemporary exterior design reinforces the car’s confident look. But the biggest news is inside, where we bring our latest user experience, seen in our new EX90 and EX30 electric cars, into the XC90.  A larger, higher-resolution central touchscreen sets the scene for an improved user experience, with key functions all accessible from the home screen and generally fewer taps to get to where you most need to be. And with over-the-air software update capability, the XC90 can get even better over time.

Last week marked a defining moment for our all-electric #VolvoEX90 SUV. The car is now on the road and being shipped to retailers in the US and Europe. The first customers will receive their cars before the end of this month. We also wrapped up our global media test drive where we let hundreds of journalists from around the world experience the EX90 – and the reviews have started coming in, praising the car for its supreme handling and whisper-quiet, refined cabin. Last but not least, we revealed that the EX90 is the world’s first car to offer the Abbey Road Studios mode, available from 2025 with the optional Bowers & Wilkins top-level audio system. This feature captures the unique sonic DNA of the legendary Abbey Road Studios, allowing users to shape the sound experience from studio control room nuances to the larger ambience of a live room, and from vintage to modern sound tonalities.

Starting with the EX90, all our future electric Volvo cars will originate from one single technology stack. This was only one of the various big announcements that came out of our Capital Markets Day, which we just wrapped up. We call it the Volvo Cars Superset tech stack: a fundamental core of systems, modules, software and hardware. It’s a single tech and software base that contains all modules and functionalities that we will use in our future electric Volvo cars. Like a set of building blocks, it can be configured in many different ways. Each of our new cars will be a selection, or a subset, of building blocks from the Superset tech stack. This new, game-changing approach to technology makes sure that our cars truly get better with time, as all our engineering work will be channelled into one direction: improving and enhancing the tech stack. That allows for dramatically improved quality, increased speed-to-market and continually better cars for our customers. Separately, we also announced an adjustment of our core business ambitions for the coming years, reflecting our relentless focus on value creation while remaining pragmatic amidst fluid market conditions. These adjustments are related to the tweaked electrification and sustainability ambitions we revealed earlier in the week.

Today was a busy and important day in the history of our company.    We announced that our new flagship SUV, the fully electric EX90, is ready and on the road. The first batch of EX90 cars are being shipped to our retailers in the US and Europe right now, and the first customers will get their cars before the end of this month. We will ramp up deliveries to more markets between the fourth quarter of this year and the first quarter of 2025.    We also revealed a new and improved Volvo XC90. Thanks to a broad suite of technology and design updates inside and out, our award-winning and best-selling hybrid SUV is now better than ever before. While a new, more contemporary exterior design reinforces the car’s confident look, the biggest news is inside, where a renewed interior enhances both practicality and user experience.    In addition, we announced that a new-generation user experience will be available in our new XC90 SUV, and in millions of other Volvo cars worldwide. Next year, around 2.5 million of our customers around the globe will receive an upgrade on their Volvo cars built as early as 2020 – all in line with our strategy to make our cars better over time with regular over-the-air software updates.  To top off the event, we offered those who stayed around until the end of the show a first look at our next fully electric model, the Volvo ES90...Finally, we slightly adjusted the timeline on some of our electrification and sustainability ambitions. Our commitment to full electrification and sustainability remains firm and industry-leading, but in light of changing market conditions and customer demands, we now aim for 90-100 per cent of our global sales to be electrified by 2030.

Through our "Meet the Future: Volvo Cars Youth Innovation Program," we recently brought ten students from top Chinese universities to the home of Volvo Cars to explore our cutting-edge innovations in safety, sustainability, and people-centric technology. With the automotive industry evolving rapidly, it is crucial for us to grow alongside the next generation of talent. In our sound lab, these students engaged hands-on with our experts, transforming their creative ideas into reality. Additionally, they had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with our global management team, experiencing our inclusive, collaborative culture and our commitment to innovation. #MeetTheFuture
